ChristianaCare is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Director of Outpatient and Mail Order Pharmacies to provide strategic, operational, clinical, and business leadership across our growing outpatient pharmacy enterprise. This leader will oversee three hospital-based outpatient pharmacies in Delaware and Maryland, as well as a centralized mail order pharmacy serving Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.

This role is essential to advancing patient access, clinical integration, operational excellence, and financial performance in alignment with ChristianaCare's mission, values, and enterprise pharmacy strategy. The Director will collaborate closely with the Vice President of Pharmacy Services and key leaders across the system to position our outpatient and mail order services as high-performing, patient-centered access points across the continuum of care.

Key Responsibilities

Operational & Clinical Leadership

  • Provide strategic and daily operational oversight for three outpatient pharmacies and the centralized mail order pharmacy.
  • Ensure safe, compliant, efficient medication dispensing and distribution.
  • Advance clinical service integration including discharge prescriptions, transitions of care, immunizations, MTM, and patient access programs.
  • Partner with inpatient and ambulatory teams to enhance continuity of care and improve patient outcomes.

Business & Financial Oversight

  • Lead all aspects of operating performance, budget oversight, and financial sustainability.
  • Monitor and interpret key performance indicators (KPIs) such as volume, margin, payer mix, adherence, and patient experience.
  • Identify opportunities for workflow optimization, inventory management, and purchasing efficiencies.
  • Support pro forma development and return-on-investment (ROI) analysis for new and expanded services.

Strategic Growth, Innovation & Access

  • Drive growth strategies aligned with ambulatory expansion and population health priorities.
  • Evaluate and implement innovative pharmacy care and distribution models-including automation, digital solutions, and alternative payer arrangements-to improve access, adherence, and total cost of care.
  • Partner with marketing and digital teams to enhance patient enrollment and engagement.

Leadership & Talent Development

  • Lead and support pharmacists (including Pharmacists-in-Charge) and supervisors across all sites.
  • Foster a high-performing, collaborative culture focused on safety, service, and professional excellence.
  • Oversee recruitment, onboarding, training, and development of team members.
  • Promote strong partnerships across inpatient, ambulatory, and specialty pharmacy areas.

Regulatory, Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with Board of Pharmacy regulations, DEA requirements, CMS standards, and payer guidelines.
  • Support audits, inspections, and development of corrective action plans as needed.
  • Promote a culture of safety, continuous quality improvement, and regulatory readiness.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's or Doctor of Pharmacy degree required; PharmD preferred
  • Residency training preferred (PGY1/PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration & Leadership or PGY1 Community Pharmacy Residency)
  • Master's degree in business, healthcare management, or related area is preferred
  • At least 7 years of progressive community and/or outpatient pharmacy leadership experience, including operational, clinical, and financial accountability in a health-system or complex pharmacy environment
  • Prior people management experience required
  • Delaware Pharmacist licensure required; must obtain Maryland licensure within the first 6 months of employment.

Annual Compensation Range $152,027.20 - $243,235.20 This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare's good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
