Job Summary:

The Department of Neurology has an opening for a full-time temporary postdoctoral fellow to work on projects lead by Dr. Andrew Bubak. This position will collaborate with study colleagues at all levels of the organization. We are seeking an individual who is collaborative, communicative, caring, detail oriented and organized, proactive, able to think critically, focused on quality, dedicated to personal growth, and highly motivated in all areas of study coordination.

The position will work independently and in collaboration with Dr. Andrew Bubak who directs NIH-funded neurodegenerative and neurovirology research projects. The applicant will design, perform and analyze experiments, and prepare manuscripts and grants.

The position is located at the Anschutz Medical Campus. Hours are usually 8:00 to 5:00 weekdays, but occasional evening and frequent weekend hours may be required.

Key Responsibilities:

* Coordinate the design, performance, and analysis of experiments independently and in collaboration with the Principal Investigator (PI) which may involve one or more of the following:

o Investigating how varicella zoster virus (VZV) contributes to neurological diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, and stroke.

* Investigating how extracellular vesicles contribute to these diseases.

o Laser-capture microdissection of protein aggregates in human brain tissue (e.g., amyloid, tau aggregates) for downstream mass spectrometry analysis.

o 2-photon imaging of cerebrovasculature in vivo to study vascular dynamics during neuroinfectious events.

o Investigate the underlying mechanisms mediating chronic pain conditions with the focus on post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN)

* Working, communicating, and collaborating with various colleagues (e.g., principal investigator, clinicians, medical staff, sponsors, contract research organizations (CROs), and neurology research staff, finance and billing professionals, and regulatory team) at various stages of each study assigned.

* Provide excellent customer service to both internal and external stakeholders by presenting a positive image of the department and University.

* Independently and in collaboration, responsible for writing grants and serving as a co-Investigator/Principal Investigator on NIH-funded grants.

* Managing accurate and timely documentation of all research activities and correspondences with collaborators (e.g., chain of custody lab samples, progress reports) that adhere to department, University and federal policies and protocols.

* The candidate may be responsible for the supervision of more junior members of the laboratory.

Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Ph.D. in neuroscience or related field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with rodents (handling, brain surgeries, tissue harvesting)
  • Experience in confocal microscopy and imaging software (Axiovision and Image J)
  • Experience in image analysis techniques
  • Experience in writing and publishing peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work independently and within diverse team structures.
  • Respect patient privacy/rights and put patient safety first, excellent patient rapport for any clinically-related projects or human sample acquisition

  • Ability to be adaptable, flexible, and to think on your feet
  • Experience with web-based tracking systems and Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access)

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$62,232 to $75,564

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
