The Opportunity with McKinstry
Our team is growing! We are currently seeking a Senior Associate Mechanical Engineer to join our ESPC (Energy Savings Performance Contracting) Engineering team in Dallas, TX. In this role, you'll lead the engineering, design, and delivery of complex energy conservation and infrastructure improvement projects while partnering closely with project managers, energy engineers, construction teams, and clients to deliver innovative, high-performance building solutions. Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to project engineers, supporting their growth and development.
- Lead engineering efforts across multiple ESPC projects while coordinating with cross-functional design and construction teams.
- Help balance workloads and identify resource needs to ensure successful project delivery.
Project Management
- Lead the engineering scope for complex energy savings and infrastructure projects from concept through construction.
- Coordinate with project managers to deliver projects on schedule, within budget, and aligned with client expectations.
- Support project planning, proposal development, and engineering efforts during project pursuits.
- Proactively identify and resolve technical challenges while managing scope, schedule, and design changes.
Engineering & Design
- Lead the design of mechanical HVAC systems, equipment selections, piping systems, controls integration, and energy conservation measures.
- Perform and review engineering calculations, design documents, specifications, and construction drawings.
- Coordinate designs across multiple engineering disciplines and with external partners.
- Evaluate existing building systems and develop practical, cost-effective solutions that improve performance, reliability, and efficiency.
- Support continuous improvement of engineering standards, tools, and design processes.
Client Partnership
- Serve as a trusted technical advisor and primary engineering contact for clients throughout project delivery.
- Build strong relationships with clients, partners, and internal stakeholders.
- Present engineering solutions and recommendations to clients and project teams.
- Support business development efforts by assisting with proposals, technical presentations, and project pursuits.
What We Would Like to See From You
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- 10+ years of mechanical engineering design experience, preferably supporting complex commercial building or energy infrastructure projects.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required; NCEES Multi-State License preferred.
- Demonstrated experience leading engineering efforts on complex, multi-discipline projects.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, central plants, energy conservation measures, and mechanical system design.
- Experience with Revit (5+ years preferred); familiarity with additional CAD/BIM platforms is a plus.
- Experience with energy modeling software such as IES VE, Carrier HAP, Trane Trace, Elite CHVAC, or similar tools preferred.
- Familiarity with software such as MATLAB, VBA, Python, InDesign, or similar engineering tools is a plus.
- Onsite construction experience is highly valued.
- LEED, WELL, or other sustainability accreditation is preferred.

The pay range for this position is $120,510 - $204,900 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Base pay information is based on market location.
