Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Power BI Developer, Journeyman to join our team in the greater DMV area, supporting the Army National Guard.

Responsibilities

    Design, build, and maintain Power BI datasets, semantic models, and reports to support operational and analytical needs.
  • Transform raw data using Power Query (M), implement DAX measures, and apply established datamodeling best practices.
  • Create interactive visualizations, dashboards, and paginated reports that communicate insights and align with stakeholder requirements.
  • Perform data profiling, cleansing, validation, and troubleshooting to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliable refreshes.
  • Monitor and resolve refresh failures, performance issues, and data discrepancies in Power BI Service environments.
  • Integrate data from SharePoint, SQL Server, Dataverse, and enterprise sources; manage incremental refresh and dataset optimization.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to refine metrics, translate business rules into technical specifications, and validate requirements.
  • Document datasets, measures, refresh schedules, and report logic to support maintainability, governance, and audit readiness.
  • Identify optimization opportunities, enhance existing reports, and adopt new Power BI capabilities to improve analytic value.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • 2 years with BS/BA; 0 years with MS/MA; 6 years with HS Diploma/equivalent
  • Clearance: Active TS/SCI clearance.

  • Candidate must meet ONE of the following:

    • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field; OR
    • Relevant DoD/military training (example: Army Data Literacy Course); OR
    • Relevant professional certification or equivalent experience (examples: CompTIA Data+; Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate; PL300 Power BI Data Analyst).
  • Required experience and skills:

    • BI, data engineering, or analytics experience with handson Power BI development.
    • Proficiency with Power Query (M), DAX, semantic modeling, and performance tuning for moderate to large datasets.
    • Experience connecting and modeling data from SQL Server, Dataverse, SharePoint, and other enterprise sources.
    • Ability to troubleshoot refresh failures, optimize report performance, and maintain dataset refresh orchestration.
    • Strong documentation skills for data lineage, measure definitions, and refresh schedules; familiarity with governance practices.
  • Desired:

    • Prior DoD/enterprise Power BI or reporting platform experience.
    • Experience with deployment pipelines, ALM for Power BI, and integration with data catalogs or lineage tools.
    • Familiarity with accessibility, paginated report design, and selfservice BI enablement.

Target Salary Range

$66,000 - $106,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
