*ED Patient Access Tech*
*Location*: Norfolk, VA *Pay:* $20/hour *Work Environment* High volume hospital setting supporting either the Emergency Department or Admitting Department. Work involves frequent patient interaction, including children and families, in fast paced and high pressure situations. Exposure to trauma cases, mental health patients, and infectious illnesses is common. *Schedule* Multiple shifts available. Schedules are provided one month in advance. Some ED shifts require every other weekend availability. This role serves as a liaison between patients, families, and clinical teams, ensuring accurate registration, insurance verification, and documentation. Technicians may be assigned to the Emergency Department or Admitting and are cross trained to support multiple registration areas as operational needs require. *Key Responsibilities* * Greet and assist patients and families upon arrival * Register patients and collect complete demographic information * Verify insurance coverage and collect copayments when applicable * Enter authorizations and billing information accurately * Obtain required signatures and documentation * Perform bedside registration in clinical areas as needed * Maintain accuracy within electronic medical record systems * Collaborate with clinical and administrative teams * Provide coverage across multiple registration locations when assigned *Required Skills & Experience* * Strong customer service and communication skills * Ability to work in a high volume, fast paced environment * Comfort working in emotionally challenging situations * Strong attention to detail and data accuracy * Basic computer proficiency *Top Skills - Must Haves:* * Customer service / patient experience * Computer skills * Ability to multitask under pressure *Nice to Have Skills:* * Patient registration or medical reception experience * Insurance verification experience * Medical terminology * EPIC or other EMR experience * Billing or coding knowledge *Job Type & Location* This is a Contract position located in Norfolk, VA. *Pay and Benefits* The pay rate for this position is $20/hour.
