About the Position

The Legal and Legislative Affairs Officer serves as a liaison between the Treasurer's Office and the County Attorney's Office on legal matters. This position provides operational guidance to the Business Operations and Administration units of the Treasurer's Office.

We Require

  • Juris Doctorate (JD) degree from an American Bar Association-accredited college or university

  • License to practice law and a member in good standing with the State Bar of Arizona

Job Contributions

  • Liaise with the County Attorney's Office and/or outside counsel to meet the legal needs of the Treasurer's Office

  • With the guidance of official legal representation and the Maricopa County Treasurer's Office's leadership team, develop and maintain effective policies and procedures

  • Ensure compliance with these policies and procedures

  • Assist staff with operational matters involving property tax liens, bankruptcies, centrally assessed properties, excess proceeds, eminent domain, summons and complaints, and tax court cases

  • Provide policy analysis regarding legislative issues and the application of statutes in the office's day-to-day operations

  • Maintain a current understanding of legal cases that may impact the Treasurer's Office's operations

  • Review, amend, and draft documents to be used by the Treasurer's Office

  • Oversee public records management activities, including public records requests and compliance with the Arizona State Library, Archives, and Public Records' retention schedules

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Working Conditions

  • Ability to work in a typical, indoor office environment

  • Must have manual dexterity of hands and body to operate office equipment

  • Must manage frequent interruptions, time pressures, high work volumes, multiple and complicated tasks, unscheduled tasks, team-oriented activities, prompt decision-making, and interaction with government officials and the public. Must constantly maintain concentration, accuracy, ethical behavior, and a professional demeanor
