| Position Summary |
This is a professional licensed Massage Therapy position that provides individualized therapeutic and medical massage to eligible patients of the University Health Center. This includes obtaining a brief history, developing a treatment plan of care, and delivering treatment using the appropriate massage techniques for the clients' physical, psychosocial, cultural, and age-related needs. The Massage Therapist provides education and referral as needed and documents patient history, treatment plans, and services rendered.
The Massage Therapist works closely with physical therapy staff, patients and their families, and interacts with other department and clinic managers, nursing staff, clinician staff, clinic lead physicians, and administrative staff to support coordinated patient care. This position reports directly to and is supervised by the Physical Therapy Operations Coordinator. The Physical Therapy Department Manager also provides clinical oversight. |

- Demonstrated clinical competence in therapeutic and medical massage techniques.
- Ability to maintain a professional presence and demeanor consistent with healthcare standards in a clinical setting.
- Skill in using motivational interviewing and patient-centered communication techniques to support engagement and treatment.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary healthcare providers, clinical staff, and campus partners to coordinate patient care.

Patient Care:
- Practices safe, effective, and appropriate massage therapy care in accordance with UHC protocols and policies and the Georgia State Board of Massage Therapy regulations.
- Evaluates and treats patients in accordance with appropriate massage therapy standards of practice.
- Determines patient care needs, incorporating age-specific considerations, functional limitations, activity level, and patient goals.
- Provides individualized treatment plans for each patient and provides ongoing care and support to patients as needed.
- Provides care using clinically appropriate therapeutic interventions to ensure the patient's ongoing improvement, return to function and patient goal acquisition.
- Documents encounters thoroughly in a concise, timely, detailed, and informative manner using the electronic medical record.
- Delivers care and education to develop therapeutic alliance, patient resilience and empowerment, and promotion/maintenance of health, fitness and wellness.
- Consults with prescribing medical provider, other members of care team, and/or department manager appropriately and as needed.

Patient Education:
- Provides age appropriate and condition specific education to patients, student groups on campus, and other groups on topics including massage therapy, pain, ergonomics, relaxation, integrative wellness, and other topics promoting health and wellness.
- Supports a learning environment for patients that fosters achievement of defined individual rehabilitation and wellness goals.
- Ensures that appropriate patient education materials are readily available.
- Integrates health promotion, wellness education and injury prevention into patient treatment plan as appropriate.
- Participates in campus outreach and department promotional activities as requested by supervisor.
- Utilizes secure messaging and approved education handouts to assist with patient education and documents education provided in electronic medical record.

Clinical Collaboration & Departmental Engagement:
- Assists with onboarding and orientation of new Massage Therapy and Physical Therapy staff by demonstrating clinical workflows, treatment procedures, and departmental protocols.
- Participates in process improvement initiatives and attends and participates in committee and staff meetings.
- Communicate with Physical Therapy staff, medical providers, and other UHC clinicians to coordinate patient care and share treatment observations that may impact patient management.
- Participates in departmental meetings, committees, and process improvement initiatives related to patient care services and clinic operations.
- Provides clinical input to UHC providers regarding massage therapy techniques, treatment considerations, and care recommendations when patients are receiving integrated services.
- Assists with maintaining continuity of departmental operations by supporting communication, scheduling coordination, or other operational needs during the supervisor's absence.
