LOCATION OF (1) POSITION(S) TO BE FILLED: DEPARTMENT OF CHILDREN'S SERVICES, LOUDON COUNTY

This is a Public Health Nursing Con 1 position on the Nursing Team in the Statewide Health and Education division. This position is currently located in Loudon County.

This position requires a criminal background check. Therefore, you may be required to provide information about your criminal history in order to be considered for this position.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in nursing and experience equivalent to three years of full-time increasingly responsible professional nursing work.

Substitution of Experience for Education: Qualifying full-time experience in nursing may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two years.

Substitution of Graduate Education for Experience: Additional graduate coursework in nursing may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of one year.

Necessary Special Qualifications: Applicants for this class must:
1. Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Tennessee.
2. A valid motor vehicle license may be required for employment in some positions.

Overview

Under general supervision, is responsible for professional public health nursing consulting work of average difficulty; and performs related work as required. This is the entry level class in the Public Health Nursing Con sub-series. An employee in this class provides advisory services and nursing consultation to health care facilities/providers. This class differs from that of Public Health Nursing Con 2 in that an incumbent of the latter may directly supervise a staff of professional and sub-professional personnel including employees of this class or have oversight over a moderate to large statewide program.

Responsibilities

  1. Provides nursing consultation and/or compliance services to healthcare facilities, providers, impacted populations, or other individuals/organizations. Depending on assignment, may be responsible for conducting surveys/investigations, providing direct care, or supporting nursing programs.
  2. Adheres to specific protocols and coordinates with co-workers and external customers to achieve program goals and promote the safety and health of those served. Functions as member of a team in analyzing information to achieve the best possible outcomes for individuals served.
  3. Serves as resource person providing technical and educational assistance and consultation to internal and external groups regarding policy, protocol, best practices, interpretation of data, and other related information to prevent the spread of communicable diseases, spread preparedness for emergency situations, and promote the safety and well-being of others.
  4. Develops and maintains professional relationships with community partners, public health employees, and other organizations.
  5. Coordinates and conducts document reviews, observations, interviews, and other methods of gathering information to identify non-compliance with regulatory requirements. Complies information from surveys and investigations of health care facilities, providers, or patients that support conclusions of compliance with state and federal protocols.
  6. Prepares a variety of reports and enters data to ensure maintenance of records and adherence to standards. May be responsible for monitoring, tracking, and administering medications according to a physician's orders and the TN Board of Nursing Protocols and standards of practice.
  7. Maintains working knowledge of current and new regulations. Analyzes current processes to assist in developing new processes to improve program efficiency and safety of those served.
  8. Mentors less experience staff and assists peers with their workloads as needed.

TN Driver Standards

State of Tennessee positions that may involve driving responsibilities require candidates to meet the following minimum driver qualifications:

  • For the past five years, the candidate's driver record must not have record of the following violations: driving under the influence (DUI), reckless driving, license suspension for moving violations, more than 4 moving violations.
