What to Expect
The Electrical Controls Technician will be responsible for installing machine controls on our automation equipment. Tasks include performing electrical field wiring, I/O check out, robot set up, electrical panel wiring, pneumatic plumbing, mechanical assembly, troubleshooting and machine integration of industrial automated equipment.
Shift: 06:30AM - 03:00PM; Monday - Friday
What You'll Do
- Complete field wiring of devices to panel I/O or field-mounted I/O, set IP addresses on offline devices using dip switches, rotary switches, or device settings, and perform offline I/O checks with manual input verification on I/O blocks
- Connect to PLCs (Siemens and Allen Bradley platforms), configure device setups and communications, and verify wiring against schematics during I/O checkout
- Power up new panels/stations, verify voltages and fuse sizes, ensure proper grounding of panels and machine frames, and validate functionality of safety devices and circuits
- Configure, set up, and test devices (servos, VFDs, conveyors, Kistler presses, Atlas Copco, robots, HMIs), teach setup points/positions for robots, presses, stops, and sensors, and troubleshoot process steps during single-step verification
- Correct PLC code with verification from controls engineers, make improvement suggestions during troubleshooting, and perform single-step verification by manually stepping a station through its process
- Provide training/coaching on proper techniques, manage onsite installation, repair, maintenance, and testing tasks, and assemble/install equipment at Tesla locations (30-40% travel)
- Collaborate with project teams, including Controls Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Assemblers, and Project Managers, to ensure seamless integration and resolution of technical challenges
What You'll Bring
- Regular independent mobility, prolonged standing/sitting/bending, lifting up to 50 lbs., and use of basic hand tools
- 2+ years of experience wiring and setting up automation equipment
- Ability to read/understand mechanical drawings/schematics, and perform high-precision work with close tolerances
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
- Proficient in MS Office, general computer literacy, and interacting with systems
- Excellent written/verbal communication, and ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
- Ability to travel to other Tesla locations
