Job Description

Freight Handler

Distribution Center Address:225 Solar Dr. Imperial, PA

Pay:Starting at $19.60/hour

  • Plus,anyperformance incentives, bonuses, etc.

Work Schedule:

  • Sunday - Thursday work week, with Friday and Saturdays off

  • 6pm to Finish approximate finish time (shifts vary based on work volume)

Gordon Food Service takes pride in delivering seamless order processing and delivery to our customers, and our warehouse staff is the backbone of our success. As afreight handler, you'll support our team bybreaking down pallets of inbound freight and sorting the product by item code onto new pallets so it can be put into inventory by our replenishment team.There's no experience required - we'll train you how to get the job done!

Does this look like you?

  • You must be 18 years of age or older.

  • Must be able to work holidays, weekends, and overtime as needed - holidays are very important to our customers!

  • We have frozen products - your ability to work in extreme cold or hot conditions (-25F to 100F) is required while you're here.

  • Must be able to read, write and communicate in English.

  • Successfully pass a drug test that will assess drug usage and a background check.

  • Prior warehouse experience preferred, but not required.

Position Summary:

Breaks down the product for the correct pallet configuration.

Essential Functions:

  • Separates inbound freight by item code onto good pallets.
  • Break down pallets of product to the correct height and width (Ti/Hi) according to the GFS ti/hi sheet.
  • Ensures placement of product in sufficient quantities to accommodate routine and/or special demands.
  • Ensures that damaged product is properly accounted for and not received into the warehouse for sale inventory.
  • Sorts and disposes of boxes.
  • Ensures the finished pallet load is wrapped with shrink wrap, loose wrap removed, case flaps are secured and product placed on a pallet that meets GFS specification..
  • Maintains an organized and clean work area.
  • Completes housekeeping activities on a daily basis..
  • Adheres to the mission and cornerstone values and applicable practices of the organization.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • Ability to work in a fast paced, physically demanding environment requiring constant walking, ascending/descending stairs or pallet jack platform, bending, reaching, lifting and carrying.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, grasp on a frequent to continual basis in a warehouse environment.
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate in English (to read labels, pick lists, scanners, signage, company website information related to benefits, updates, complete paperwork and follow verbal instructions).
  • Must be able to work independently or within a team environment.
  • Must adhere to all safety regulations and procedures.
  • Employees in all warehouse positions must be able to immediately perceive auditory warning signals such as bells, alarms, and horns that are used to warn employees of the startup, movement, or approach of equipment (including forklifts, turrets, overhead cranes, conveyors, trucks, and other equipment operated inside or outside the warehouse), mechanical abnormalities, and similar risk situations during warehouse operations.

Equipment / Tools / Technology:

  • Must be able to understand and operate the basic functions of a Radio Frequency handheld computer.
  • Forklift, pallet jack, hand trucks, clamp truck

  • Internet, email, and other applications

Educational & Experience Requirements:

  • None required, prior warehouse experience preferred.
  • High School / Equivalent Preferred
  • Powered Industrial Vehicle (PIV) certification must be obtained upon hire and maintained during employment
