Lead Construction Oversight and Infrastructure Delivery with Fishbeck

Fishbeck is seeking a full-time Senior Construction Engineer to join our Saginaw, Michigan office. This role is responsible for providing construction administration and oversight services on behalf of clients across municipal, MDOT, and heavy highway infrastructure projects of varying size and complexity.


The ideal candidate is a selfmotivated professional with a strong commitment to quality, excellent planning and communication skills, and the ability to lead project teams in both office and field environments. Willingness to travel and work outdoors on active construction sites is required.


What You'll Work On


  • Identify potential clients and business development opportunities within the MDOT Bay Region and Michigan municipal markets.
  • Support business development efforts, including assisting with responses to Requests for Proposals.
  • Help build and manage teams of engineers and technicians performing construction inspection, administration, and documentation from prebid through project closeout.
  • Establish and manage teaming relationships with other consulting firms to pursue new project opportunities.
  • Administer and coordinate multiple municipal, highway, and bridge rehabilitation and reconstruction projects.
  • Verify contractor work complies with contract documents, drawings, specifications, and applicable standards.
  • Schedule, facilitate, and document project meetings, including progress meetings, HMA and concrete preproduction meetings, and public meetings.
  • Oversee preparation of project pay estimates, contract modifications, work orders, and related documentation.
  • Review office and field work products to ensure accuracy, completeness, and contractual compliance.
  • Provide technical leadership for complex or unique assignments.
  • Train and mentor inspection staff.
  • Interpret complex contract documents and develop solutions to unforeseen construction issues.
  • Monitor staff activities for conformance with contractual and technical requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, local agencies, contractors, and the general public.
  • Provide timely and clear project updates and recommend corrective actions when issues arise.
  • Review and draft responses to contractor correspondence and claims.
  • Monitor project budgets and proactively communicate risks or concerns to clients.
  • Manage internal project services contract budgets.



What We're Looking For


  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Michigan is required.
  • 10+ years of experience in municipal construction, MDOT, heavy highway, and/or bridge construction.
  • Prior experience as a Project Engineer or Assistant Project Engineer performing construction oversight and administration for roadway and bridge projects.
  • Knowledge of transportation and municipal engineering from design through construction completion.
  • Strong project management and leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage projects ranging from local street improvements to complex urban highway and bridge infrastructure.
  • Proven ability to develop innovative solutions and maintain strong professional partnerships.
  • Ability to resolve conflicts professionally and effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.



Physical Requirements


  • Ability to stand, walk, and sit as needed on active construction sites.
  • Ability to drive to project sites and navigate uneven terrain.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds of testing equipment or materials.
  • Ability to read printed materials and computer screens, and to communicate verbally and audibly.
