Job Summary

Direct a multi-campus comprehensive recreation program including campus recreation facilities, shooting sports educational center, a golf course, operations, personnel, budget, programs and services, including recreational sports (intramural and club), fitness, aquatics, and outdoor programs. Foster student programs, establish strategic planning goals, manage budget, oversee risk management, assess impact and learning outcomes, and develop operational procedures in both all campus locations with recreational programs. Reports to the Vice President for Student Affairs.

Responsibilities
  • Recruit, hire, train, develop, and supervise 10-15 management-level professional staff; Direct and manage professional staff in Campus Recreation and Intramurals
  • Direct operations, reserve, and auxiliary accounts. Present revenue and expense projections to the Vice President of Student Affairs and Director of Business Services
  • Provide leadership to a team of professional staff, graduate assistants, and student employees. Work collectively with staff to define short and long-term goals. Monitor the progress of assigned tasks. Ensure programs are consistent with policy
  • Facilitate regular assessments to guide decision-making
  • Interpret the department's philosophy and specific programs to the University community and public-at-large
  • Review and enforce policies and procedures
  • Maintain and utilize risk management best practices
  • Coordinate support for department and/or facility special events
  • Maintain industry standards in program development and facility upkeep
  • Serve on University and departmental work teams and committees. Collaborate with key stakeholders to support a variety of university programs (i.e. athletics, academic courses, ROTC events)
  • Serve as a member of the Division of Student Affairs Leadership Team (SALT). SALT members lead and foster staff engagement, are knowledgeable of issues that impact the Division and collaborate with one another. SALT members lead and foster creative thinking while championing innovative programs that impact student success. Support events/programs/activities that are sponsored by other departments within or by the Division that include/do not include CRI engagement several times each semester
  • Align and integrate area mission and goals across other functional areas by identifying ways to collaborate intra-divisionally and university-wide on events, initiatives, programs or services


Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
  • Master's Degree in Physical Education, Recreation Administration, Sports Management, Higher Education, or a related field

Required Experience
  • Eight (8) to ten (10) years of progressive professional experience in recreation with a strong background in facility management, program development, and staff supervision
  • Eight (8) or more years of supervisory experience


Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced business administration knowledge
  • Experience in the management and coordination of shared-use facilities (i.e., athletics, academic programs)
  • Experience working in collegiate recreation programs
  • Experience managing budgets, personnel, and programs in recreation
  • Experience managing a golf course and/or shooting sports center
  • Membership and active participant in NIRSA
  • Experience showing the relationship between student recreation utilization and student success


Proposed Salary

$100,000 - $117,681

This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.

  • Thorough knowledge of the philosophy of recreational sports and the ability to organize and administer a comprehensive program to meet the needs of the University community
  • Knowledge of current trends and issues impacting collegiate recreational programs and services
  • Foundational knowledge of student development, assessment of student learning outcomes, and campus recreation best practices

SKILLS
  • Effective communication (verbal and written), organizational and human relations skills
  • A well-developed talent for leadership of college students
  • Demonstrated expertise in strategic planning, program evaluation, staff development and fiscal management
