Tesla's Bay Area Prototype Shop is currently seeking a dedicated and skilled Lead Maintenance Technician to join the team and contribute to Tesla's mission. The Prototype Team provides engineers and technicians across the organization with complex and critical machined and fabricated components and assemblies to meet the most aggressive program objectives. Through close collaboration with a world-class team of fellow machinists, fabricators, technicians, engineers, and leadership, we enhance the design of systems and products from concept through production by bringing intangible ideas to the physical world. We contribute to a range of projects from concept and pre-production vehicles, energy systems, artificial intelligence, robotics, and other future-facing initiatives. As Lead Maintenance Technician on our team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the operational availability and optimization of a wide array of manufacturing equipment and infrastructure.You will apply your technical skills and knowledge to manage installations, maintain and repair our world-class machines to meet critical program development goals. You will be the first responder and problem solver who manages equipment vitality to maximize our impact on Tesla's mission.
What You'll Do
- Efficiently perform repairs and preventative maintenance on all fabrication equipment and CNC machines
- Work with vendors directly to identify and source replacement parts and consumables
- Manage work with OEM technicians and contractors to supplement internal capacity and capabilities
- Observe, test, and diagnose, and fix electrical, mechanical, and PLC issues
- Operate shop equipment including but not limited to: mill, lathe, drill press, grinder, welding and other metalworking tools, and various hand tools to make and repair parts
- Develop, document, and implement routine maintenance processes and systems
- Identify, present, plan, and implement equipment and process optimizations
- Assist and facilitate installation of new equipment and decommissioning of old equipment
- Remain agile to reprioritization based on dynamic needs of the shop
- Perform all assignments in a safe manner while adhering to security policies
What You'll Bring
- 5+ years of professional working experience in a maintenance or service engineer capacity
- Strong working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and PLC systems
- Experience with common rigging, construction, machine shop, and fabrication equipment
- Experience with Fanuc, Siemens, Heidenhain, Haas, and other CNC controls a plus
- Experience with automation systems installation, optimization, and trouble shooting
- Excellent communication skills with ability to develop and present technical information through verbal, email, text, phone, Microsoft Office suite, and other digital communication platforms
- Self-driven with positive energy, attitude, and eagerness to learn, grow and teach other
- Excellent mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, analytical skills, and time management
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively both independently and as a team with minimal supervision
- Flexible with the ability to work overtime on short notice based on strategic needs of the company

Expected Compensation
$27.52 - $64.20/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
