The Epic Analyst - Compass Rose is responsible for the design, build, testing, and long-term support of DaVita Epic Care Management application, Compass Rose. This role supports the Integrated Kidney Care (IKC) program within the DaVita Epic instance, enabling care coordinators and clinical case managers to track patient health longitudinally, manage care gaps, and address Social Determinants of Health (SDOH).

The analyst serves as the key technical and operational partner for the IKC Product Team translating complex care coordination workflows such as patient outreach, assessment logic, and personalized care planning - into efficient system functionality. We explicitly value both deep Epic technical expertise and/or strong IKC operational knowledge; successful candidates may bring strength in one area with an expectation to grow in the other.

Distinctions by Level

* Tier II Analyst: Focuses on execution, system build, and learning the domain. Works with guidance from senior analysts to complete configuration tasks, troubleshoot issues, and support testing. Ideal for those building their Epic expertise or transitioning from an operational role into IT.

* Tier III Analyst: Operates with high independence and ownership. Serves as a design authority for complex workflows, mentor's junior analysts, and drives strategic decisions. Collaborative leadership with stakeholders is expected at this level.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Agile Product Delivery & Technical Strategy

* Product Collaboration: Partner with the Product Manager and Designer during sprint refinement to validate technical feasibility and ensure user stories meet the Product model before build begins.

* Requirements Translation: Lead the translation of broad product opportunities into development-ready Epic technical specifications. You are responsible for bridging the gap between "what we want to solve" and "how Epic solves it" (Configuration vs. Customization).

* Rapid Prototyping & Discovery: Execute Epic Feature Discovery and build rapid Proof of Concepts (POCs) in non-production environments to validate hypotheses and test desirability with users before committing to full-scale implementation.

* Epic Best Practices Ownership: Serve as the accountable owner for Epic Best Practices, ensuring that all product designs leverage standard functionality first (Foundation System) to minimize long-term maintenance debt.

System Configuration & Core Duties

* System Design & Build: Lead the configuration, build, and maintenance of Compass Rose modules. Specific focus areas include User dashboards, Care Plans, Goals & Interventions, SmartForms, Assessments, Patient Outreach workflows, and Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) domains.

* Workflow Analysis: Collaborate with IKC Product teams, in addition to operational and clinical subject matter experts (SMEs), to analyze current state care management workflows (e.g., transition of care) and design future state processes that align with best practices for longitudinal care coordination.

* Governance & Standards: Participate in application governance and design authority processes to ensure consistent, scalable, and compliant build across Care Management workflows, ensuring standardization of Care Plan content across different patient populations.

* Care Management & Coordination: Configure and support tools that enable the care team to track patient progress over time, including Patient Lists, Dynamic Care Plans, and Episodes of Care.

* Reporting & Metrics Enablement: Partner with analytics and reporting teams to define, validate, and support care management metrics, including caseload volumes, assessment completion rates, and care gap closures.

* Integration Support: Ensure seamless integration between Compass Rose and other Epic modules (e.g., Healthy Planet, EpicCare Ambulatory, MyChart) as well as external data sources (payer claims, health exchanges) to ensure a comprehensive view of the patient.

* Change & Adoption Support: Collaborate with training and change management teams to ensure system design supports effective end-user adoption and operational readiness for Care Managers, Social Workers, and Nurse Coordinators.

* Testing & Validation: Plan and execute comprehensive testing scripts (unit, system, application, and integrated testing) to validate system build, ensure data integrity, and mitigate risks prior to production migration.

* Issue Resolution: Troubleshoot and resolve complex system issues, identifying root causes and implementing robust solutions. Serve as a Tier 3 support contact for end-users.

* Project Participation: Support the IKC implementation onto the DaVita Epic instance by participating in project milestones, including design sessions, dress rehearsals, cutover planning, go-live, and post-live stabilization support.

* Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date system documentation, including build trackers, test scripts, and workflow diagrams. Adhere to strict change control processes using tools like Nova and Orion.

* Stakeholder Collaboration: Build strong partnerships with IKC Product, Clinical Leadership and Operational Directors to ensure the system meets business goals and regulatory requirements (e.g., NCQA, value-based care contracts).

* Assessment Governance: Own the lifecycle management of care management assessments, including versioning, logic updates, and retirement of obsolete content to ensure clinical relevance and data integrity.

* Outreach & Caseload Optimization: Configure and support outreach prioritization and caseload management logic to enable care teams to efficiently focus on high-risk and high-need patients.

* Data Stewardship: Support care team understanding of data provenance across clinical, claims, and patient-reported sources to ensure appropriate interpretation and trust in care management workflows.

* Other Duties as Assigned: Participate in system upgrades, special updates, and other department initiatives as required.

Education and Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Healthcare Management/Administration, Nursing, Information Systems, or a related field; or equivalent professional experience.

    • Clinical background (RN, MSW) is a strong plus.

  • Experience: We recognize two equally valid paths to success in this role. Candidates should meet the requirements of one of the following tracks:

    • Track A (Technical Focus): Minimum 2-4 years of healthcare IT experience, specifically with Epic implementation, build, or support. Experience leading full-cycle implementations or major upgrades is preferred for Tier III.

    • Track B (Operational Focus): Minimum 2-4 years of operational experience in IKC care management, population health, or value-based care models. A strong understanding of care coordination workflows and patient outreach logic is required.

  • Skills:

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate complex business needs into technical solutions.

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact effectively with non-technical end users and executive stakeholders.

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Visio, PowerPoint).

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
  • Epic Certification: We prioritize the ability to learn and master the system. While current Epic certification (Compass Rose, Healthy Planet, or Ambulatory) is preferred, it is not required at hire.

  • Certification Support: If not currently certified, the candidate must be willing and able to obtain Epic certification within a specified timeframe (e.g., 3 months) of hire. DaVita will provide the necessary training and support to achieve this.

Travel and Time Requirements
  • Travel: Ability to travel up to 25% to support implementation, site visits, or training (e.g., trips to Epic headquarters in Verona, WI).

  • Schedule: Standard business hours, with flexibility required for go-live support and system upgrades.

Language Skills: Fluent in the written and verbal skills necessary to successfully perform the essential functions, duties, and responsibilities of the position.

Work Environment: Level III - Moderate noise (e.g., business office with computers or printers, light traffic). Visual: Vision adequate to perform the essential duties/responsibilities of position.

Physical Demands: Physical requirements can vary. These must be reviewed with management. However, in general, the position requires the following activities:

  • Ability to lift minimum of 5 lbs to a max of 50 lbs unassisted and able to stand, sit, stoop, walk, stretch, reach, and use full range of body motions.

  • Manual dexterity as required for specific equipment and ability to use computer keyboard and peripherals.
