General Description Under the direction of the Liquid Asphalt Terminal Manager, the Asphalt Terminal Laborer is responsible for supporting the entire production process of the Terminal. The goal of the Terminal Technician is to ensure that the production process runs smoothly, safely and efficiently while maintaining a high level of quality and flow of materials in and out of the Terminal. Roles and Responsibilities:
- Understand all aspects of the operations and maintenance requirements for the Terminal
- Identify problem areas and give input and make needed corrections.
- Troubleshoot and take appropriate corrective actions as needed
- Gauge products transferred to and from tanks, trucks, and railcars to verify and control inventory, completing inventory sheets and product transfer sheets accurately and timely.
- Perform valve lineups, switch and tank changes as required to move products in and out of storage.
- Works diligently and follows all safety requirements to prevent product contamination, spills and avoid product loss.
- Inputs information into computer system as required.
- Maintain location appearance and maintain facility in exemplary compliance.
- Perform tank inspections, make analysis of tank contents and prepare records as required, make routine daily inspection of facilities.
- Perform the necessary sampling and testing of product stored in the terminal and as it is received into the terminal.
- Check trucks in and out of the facility, completing weighing and required documentation paperwork.
- Assist drivers and customers in loading the correct product safely into trucks.
- Perform general maintenance responsibilities as directed.
- Record operational data, tasks completed, maintenance and operational needs to ensure proper documentation is kept.
- Communicate with appropriate individuals on all manufacturing and production operations, any equipment issues, or any maintenance issues within the tank farm that cannot be addressed by those on-site.
- Safely operate a variety of equipment within the tank farm facility, to include, but not limited to: pumps, valves, blowers, compressors, material handling and dumping equipment, etc.
- Work in a safe manner, which follows company safety policies and programs.
- Responsible for other projects and assignments as directed.
Qualification Requirements
- Experience in related field (desired but not required)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Basic computer skills and the ability to learn and master the local operational software and equipment required for the terminal operations
- Basic Industrial maintenance skills and/or the mechanical aptitude to quickly learn specific skills
Physical Demands
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time and ability to lift, bend, stoop, stretch, climb, and kneel as needed.
- Ability to enter confined spaces and wear proper PPE when required.
- Ability to climb railcars and tanks.
- Ability to work on uneven surfaces, including natural ground and slopes, in varying weather conditions
- Ability to work around asphalt and other related chemicals on an ongoing basis.
- Ability to lift 50-75lbs. repetitively as needed
Work Environment The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those that a Liquid Asphalt Terminal Technician encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
- Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise, grease, dirt, and dust that is typically associated with a construction project.
- Employee regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
- Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on construction sites such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel and ready mixed concrete.
- Work is also performed indoors in an office setting.
