About the Role
W.L. Gore and Associates is looking for a Pathology Technician to be employed as a member of the Biosciences' Pathology team that supports the development of state-of-the art implantable medical devices, including but not limited to vascular grafts, endovascular and interventional devices, cardiac devices, surgical meshes and sutures. In this role you will be responsible for the intake and processing/evaluation of explanted medical devices (clinical returns), andperform a subset of engineering evaluations maintain the clinical returns laboratory space, assist Explant Scientists in grossing clinical explants, and provide support for the Histology Specialists in the Histology Lab. This role will be located at our facility in Flagstaff, Arizona.
Responsibilities
- Receive and issue initial clinical specimen communications
- Identification of device components
- Obtain digital images of returned devices and work with various engineers in fulfilling special image requests
- Properly package and ship of a subset of clinical returns to other facilities
- Organize and archive completed clinical returns
- Ensure the clinical returns laboratory is properly stocked with supplies
- Prepare specimen hood and set up supplies in advance of grossing sessions
- Wash labware, organize slides, archive specimens, input accessioning information in LIMS, grind/polish plastic slides, label specimen cassettes/slides
- Collaborate with appropriate associates such as project engineers, pathologists, explant scientists, EH&S and QAU associates, histology specialists, pathology technicians as part of daily activities
- Execution of standard operating procedures
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree with some level of experience in biomedical science, engineering, biology, or animal science, or any other related engineering or life science fields
- Minimum 2 year of demonstrated experience working in a laboratory or in a regulated industry
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently as well with cross functional teams
- Demonstrated ability to independently solve problems and effectively navigate ambiguity, identifying viable paths forward, and making timely decisions with minimal guidance
- Must be able to lift approximately 50lbs independently
- Ability to travel up to 5%
Desired Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical device manufacturing
- Experience processing clinical returns
