Mativ is seeking a Lead Coating Operator on night shift to support our growing business. This role will work a rotating schedule which includes every other weekend, 6pm-6am.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Lead Coating Operator is responsible for the efficient operation of coating machines, ensuring product quality, and providing daily leadership to coating personnel. This role supports production goals by overseeing machine operations, troubleshooting issues, maintaining compliance with safety and quality standards, and guiding team members to achieve optimal performance.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead daily coating operations, ensuring production targets, quality standards, and safety requirements are consistently met
- Provide direction and support to Coating Machine Operators to ensure efficient workflow and adherence to production schedules
- Act as the primary point of contact on the production floor for coating operations, escalating issues as needed
- Set up and operate the coating machine according to O.C.S. Sheet and standard operating procedures
- Verify proper machine setups and job changeovers to ensure accuracy and minimize downtime
- Check quality and quantity of all raw materials against work orders to ensure correct materials are used
- Mix chemicals per ISO instructions and oversee chemical handling to ensure consistency and compliance
- Monitor machine conditions and adjust settings as needed to maintain optimal performance
- Perform routine quality checks to ensure products meet internal and customer specifications
- Troubleshoot coating defects, equipment issues, and process inconsistencies
- Perform minor maintenance and coordinate with maintenance teams to reduce downtime
- Train and onboard new operators on machine operation, safety procedures, and quality standards
- Ensure all operators follow work instructions, setup sheets, and safety protocols
- Maintain clean room/white room conditions through proper housekeeping (mopping, sweeping, tacky mats, etc.)
- Stage raw materials and process materials in designated areas within production
- Monitor inventory levels of materials and supplies; notify supervisor when replenishment is needed
- Complete and review production paperwork for accuracy, including materials, coatings, and job details
- Maintain accurate production records and ensure proper documentation compliance
- Enforce all safety procedures and ensure a safe working environment for all employees
- Report issues related to operations, equipment, or materials to the Shift Supervisor
- Assist in prioritizing production jobs and coordinating workflow based on business needs
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste, improve efficiency, and enhance product quality
- Participate in root cause analysis and corrective actions for production or quality issues
- Perform line audits and ensure 5S/housekeeping standards are consistently maintained
- Lead shift handoff communications to ensure continuity between teams
- Act as backup to the Shift Supervisor when needed
- Perform any other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certifications/Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Forklift certification preferred
- Previous leadership experience preferred
- Ability to read and comprehend basic documents
- Ability to write and interpret shift communications and reports
- Basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide, ratios, percentages)
- Ability to interpret charts, graphs, and production data
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Mechanical aptitude
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
- Time management and prioritization skills
- Knowledge of quality principles and internal quality systems
- Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and able to work independently and in a team setting
