Job Summary

Provides direct patient care in Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation program. Orients, assesses and case manages patients in the program and monitors patients during exercise sessions. Responsibilities focus on the preventive and restorative healthcare needs of the cardiopulmonary patients in this area. This includes providing patients with education on disease, risk factors, and behavior modification. The CRT will communicate with the patient's physician and the department's medical director regarding changes in clinical condition including laboratory tests and symptomatology.

Responsibilities And Scope

* Possesses extensive knowledge of Phase 1, 2, and 3 Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation, cardiovascular and pulmonary disease pathophysiology, risk factor modification, and disease management; Possesses knowledge of exercise prescription as it relates to patients commonly treated in the Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation setting; Provides appropriate supervision to patients during the exercise session; Properly demonstrates exercises prescribed to the patient; Accurately checks and documents data relative to a patient's exercise session (i.e. BP, HR, rhythm, O2 sat., RPE, exercise time, work levels, etc.).

* Participates as part of an interdisciplinary team, orients and assesses patients, develops and assists with the plan of care, including medical plans, patient expectations, and desired outcomes; Exhibits good collaborative efforts with other healthcare team members to ensure a consistent continuum of care; Provides regular and ongoing assessments and monitoring of patient's progress; Communicates with the patient's provider as needed; Provide appropriate participant education as needed.

* Assists with promotion of Cardiopulmonary Rehab Programs; Initiate or manage Performance Improvement projects relating to clinical, technical, or administrative activities; Maintains membership in relevant national and/or state professional associations to enhance professional growth.

* Properly evaluates patient's condition deciding when clinical intervention is required so that no patient condition deteriorates unnecessarily; Institutes emergency measures to prevent critical events; Responds to and provides direction during crises or emergency situations.

Qualifications

Required

* Basic Life Support (BLS)

* Licensed and/or credentialed in one of the following:

* North Carolina Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license

* Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) as administered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)

* State and/or National licensed EMT or Paramedic

Preferred

* AACVPR/Certified Cardiac Rehab Professional

* One year work experience in the adult critical care setting

* Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
