Job Summary

The purpose of this position is to ensure high availability of network devices, computer components and peripherals within CenterPoint Energy - Power Generation's ICS (Industrial Control Systems). The operational technology specialist supports all aspects of network and computer technologies for industrial control systems with a strong emphasis on cyber security.

Essential Functions

  • Under general direction, the position will assist in maintaining Power Generation's asset management, log management, and vulnerability management suite of tools.
  • The specialist position will be responsible for network hardware/software troubleshooting within the ICS environment and integration of our SIEM systems into our OT SOC.
  • The position also assists with supporting NERC compliance pertaining to the Power Generation ICS environment.
  • The specialist will measure, track, and report key productivity indicators for technology processes including cyber security metrics.
  • The position will also investigate deficiencies in cyber security posture and develop remediation plans to correct.
  • They shall monitor key industry information forums for current security concerns and recommend appropriate courses of action while maintaining information flow between control system components.
  • Ensure high availability in a 24/7 work environment.
  • Key Customers include: Steam plant operations and maintenance, gas turbine operations, solar power generation, NERC compliance, IT security, corporate IT, corporate security, corporate governance, and corporate risk.

Education Description

  • Associates degree with a concentration in related field such as networking, cybersecurity, computer science, or 5+ years of equivalent work experience.
  • Essential qualifications + IT/OT certifications preferred

Experience

  • 3-5 years of experience as a Cisco Network Engineer or a similar role in network administration, Cisco networking, or IT infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge of networking technologies
  • Hands-on experience with configuration of Cisco switches, routers, etc.
  • Working experience with network and routing protocols
  • Ability to troubleshoot network issues CLI tools, packet captures, Wireshark, etc.
  • Knowledge of firewalls, VPN, and security appliances
  • CenterPoint Energy ICS vendor experience and 3+ years of industrial control system experience preferred
  • Experience working with SIEM integration

Working Conditions

  • The employee is required to work in both indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to both high and low temperatures.
  • Exposure to loud noises and fumes is possible.
  • When appropriate, the employee is required to wear personal protective equipment including but not limited to hard hat, steel-toed boots, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
  • Employees must have a valid driver's license and will be required to travel between corporate offices and generating site locations. Some positions may require frequent travel to field offices.
