As a Georgia Tech Sports Reporter, you will be responsible for covering various sports for Georgia Tech, recruiting and other topics related to college sports. A successful candidate will be able to keep up with the latest in college sports, with a particular focus on football and basketball, along with other pertinent issues, including recruiting, NIL and the transfer portal. A successful candidate will be able to quickly produce trending stories, efficiently contribute independently reported features and be able to cover live game action.
Duties of this role include: * Plan content effectively. Work with Sr. Editor, Pro and College Sports to maintain a weekly content plan. * Stay up to date with what is transpiring in Georgia Tech sports and be able to generate compelling content each day. * Attend games/events as assigned * Collaborate effectively with other departments to write and turn compelling and accurate content. * Demonstrate an ability to determine best platform to tell a story (written, video, social, other) and work with platform leads on a collaborative plan to produce reporter-led content. * Meet assigned goals and deliverables as set by Sr. Editor, Pro and College Sports * Understand how the metrics allow our company to achieve its goals. When needed, use metrics to make informed decisions on coverage. * Travel as needed for either games/events, special assignments or team coverage. Travel to be approved by a senior sports editor. * Build and maintain relationships across the state, including communications with coaches, athletic directors, media relations contacts and other partners * Participate in podcasts, videos or radio interviews when needed or as assigned by senior leadership. * Maintain expenses and submit monthly expense reports. * Be able to work extended hours or flexible hours based on assignments. Education and Skills * Bachelor's degree (preferably in journalism) and 2+ years working in media organization or equivalent experience. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as a master's degree and up to 2 years' experience; or 6 years' experience in a related field. * Experience working with digital media and multi-media. A combination of traditional media and digital media preferred. * Prior podcast or video experience is a plus. * Ability to meet deadlines. * Prior work with CMS and ability to learn new technologies. * Effectively communicate in a fast-paced environment. * Remain organized, communicative, and amenable to change alongside a growing company. * Knowledge of AP style. * Proficient in social media applications and how to promote work through social media. * Curious and open to explore new opportunities. USD 29.38 - 44.09 per hour Compensation: Hourly pay rate is in the range of $29.38 - $44.09/hour. The hourly base rate may vary within the anticipated range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include commission (annual, monthly, etc.) and/or an incentive program. Benefits: Employees are eligible to receive a minimum of sixteen hours of paid time off every month and seven paid holidays throughout the calendar year. Employees are also eligible for additional paid time off in the form of bereavement leave, time off to vote, jury duty leave, volunteer time off, military leave, and parental leave.
