The Defense Systems Group (DSG) provides analysis-based decision support to senior leaders on space architectures, policy and strategy, developmental planning, system of systems engineering, and threat reduction to help shape future space missions across the national security space enterprise. DSG is unique at Aerospace as it not only directly supports major customers, including United States Space Force, United States Space Command, United States Strategic Command, Air Force Material Command, and senior leadership at the Pentagon, but also provides a broad range of services and support across the national space enterprise, maintaining vertical responsibilities with customers but also horizontal, matrixed responsibilities across the corporation.

The Nuclear Operations Directorate has an immediate opening to support the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) Commander, the Nuclear Command, Control & Communications (NC3) Program Executive Officer and Integration Directorate (AFNWC/NC), Air Force Global Strike Command (AFGSC) and the NC3 Enterprise Center (NEC) at United States Strategic Command on current and future NC3 architecture modeling and simulation tasks.

The selected candidate will be required to work full-time, on-site at our facility in Chantilly, VA.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Develop modeling & simulation tools to support analysis of current NC3 systems, capabilities, vulnerabilities and future technology insertion
  • Communicate M&S capability and design to AFNWC, AFGSC and NEC customers, including leadership up to the General Officer level
  • Act as the primary internal interface for reach-back to the Engineering Technical Group (ETG) workforce located in El Segundo, CA and at other Aerospace locations in support of NC3 Architecture Development, M&S design, and assessment tool integration
  • Apply systems engineering experience and discipline to the NC3 Enterprise
  • Provide support to development, evaluation, and validation of system level requirements
  • Build connections across various customers to achieve enterprise integration and efficiency
  • Coordinate tasks and participate in technical interchange and working group meetings
  • Create periodic status reports for both Aerospace managers and USG customers
  • Present technical and project status briefings to management and customers
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations to capture findings, and provide technical assessments and guidance to the customer
  • This position requires approximately 20% travel away from the local area; additional local travel within the National Capital Region may be frequent.

What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements Project Engineer - Systems and Mission Assurance Engineering

  • Master's degree from an accredited program in a STEM field.
  • Eight or more years of industry or DoD experience
  • Experience in operational or technical disciplines relevant to Nuclear Command, Control & Communications (e.g., terrestrial, line-of-sight, and space-based communications and sensing systems, and ground-based terminals and antennas) and strategic weapon systems (bombers, Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles)
  • Detailed understanding and experience modeling in AFSIM and CAMEO
  • Digital Engineering fluency with a focus on Architecture development, Modeling & Simulation tools and environments for enterprise mission analysis
  • Willing to travel domestically approximately 20%
  • This position requires an Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
  • Current eligibility to obtain SAP access

How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

  • Ph.D. degree from an accredited program in STEM field
  • Experience in working with Department of Defense organizations and FFRDC/UARCs support DoD activities
  • Experience in working on enterprise architecture, modeling & simulation, cybersecurity, cryptographic technology, communications or sensing satellite systems, or ground terminals and antennas.

The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below. Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
