PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The Coatings Quality Control Inspector plays a crucial role in ensuring surface preparation, coating applications, and materials meet specifications and code requirements. This position is responsible for maintaining quality standards by inspecting and testing coating systems, identifying non-conformities, and recommending corrective actions. The role supports Worley's ambition to be recognized globally as a leader in sustainability solutions by ensuring compliance with regulatory codes and standards, helping to deliver safe and efficient projects across the energy, chemicals, and resources sectors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct inspections of surface preparation, coating applications, and materials to verify compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.

  • Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to ensure adherence to project quality standards and coating system requirements.

  • Verify proper surface preparation methods (e.g., blasting, cleaning) and environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, dew point) prior to and during coating application.

  • Perform coating inspections including film thickness measurements (DFT/WFT), adhesion testing, holiday detection, and visual inspections.

  • Identify and document non-conformities, ensuring appropriate corrective actions are taken in alignment with project and company guidelines.

  • Participate in quality audits and assessments, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Provide guidance on coating quality assurance practices, assisting teams in understanding and applying relevant procedures and standards.

  • Support project execution by offering technical expertise in coatings and corrosion control, helping to resolve issues and optimize performance.

  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of inspection results, tests, and compliance reports for internal and external stakeholders.


QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Technical school graduate or equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience in coatings or corrosion control inspection.

  • Strong knowledge of industry standards such as SSPC/NACE, ASTM, and project-specific coating specifications within the energy, chemicals, and resources sectors.

  • Experience performing coating inspections, evaluating compliance, and implementing corrective actions in a complex project environment.

  • Ability to exercise judgment in selecting and organizing work methods, with an aptitude for developing process improvements.

  • Proficiency in using coating inspection tools and instruments (e.g., DFT gauges, surface profile gauges, holiday detectors) and documentation systems.

  • Excellent communication skills, capable of informing and persuading stakeholders through reports, presentations, and collaboration.

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., NACE CIP, SSPC Coatings Inspector Program) preferred.

  • Commitment to safety, sustainability, and continuous learning in alignment with Worley's core values and business objectives.

  • Experience working in environments that bridge traditional and sustainable energy solutions, supporting the transition to a more sustainable world.
