A Brief Overview: The infusion pharmacy manager is responsible for overseeing the operations of the infusion pharmacy department and associated services, which may also include being the Pharmacist in Charge. This role involves managing the pharmacy team, ensuring regulatory, legal and accreditation compliance, and promoting optimal medication use. Additional responsibilities involve managing medication usage to ensure cost-effectiveness, formulary compliance, and regulatory compliance. The pharmacy manager will also be asked to stay current with best practices to ensure the adoption of effective therapies, while reviewing the latest literature and guidelines. The pharmacy manager will collaborate with the pharmacy team and engage with providers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals through committees, workgroups, and individual interactions. The pharmacy manager should have knowledge of all pharmacy automation, electronic health record, pharmacy interfaces, and pharmacy workflows.
What you will do:
- Directs, coordinates, and controls the operation and planning of infusion pharmacy services.
- Ensure compliance with all hospital, state, and federal regulations related to medication use and pharmacy practice.
- Directs and participates in the drug procurement process, drug cost analysis, and budgeting activities of Pharmacy services.
- Demonstrates a commitment to providing effective staff training and supervision of pharmacists and technicians. Lead pharmacy staff meetings to discuss operational or personnel related updates.
- Hold responsibility for the supervision, performance management and professional development of pharmacy staff, ensuring all team members meet operational and clinical goals.
- Provides direction to staff in accordance with professional standards, regulatory requirements, established Endeavor Health and Pharmacy policies and procedures, guidelines, practices, and protocols.
- Precepts pharmacy residents and students to provide guidance in their activities, to teach current practice techniques, and to become a role model for new pharmacists.
- Promotes collaborative pharmacy practice and teamwork between all pharmacy staff.
- Assure that proper records and documentation are maintained as required by law and hospital policy
- Assists in managing drug stock and drug shortages. Approves automated dispensing cabinet/stock par levels.
- Administer personnel functions within the department such as performance evaluations/salary actions, counseling/disciplinary action as required, staffing schedules, and staff development.
- Coordinates staff schedule and reviews/approves PTO requests.
- Audits technician assigned daily tasks to ensure completion and promotes teamwork such as cleaning, stock rotation, check for expiration dates, returns put away, no overstock stored, nothing stacked within six inches of ceilings.
- Coordinate Pharmacy services through open and active communication with the medical staff, nursing staff and other hospital staff via individual contact as well as active participation committees such as Infusion Drug Evaluation Committee, Oncology Drug Evaluation Committee, etc.
- Coordinates with the pharmacy leadership for review/revision of pharmacy policies and procedures and pharmacy staff competencies. Prepares new policies when required.
- Makes suggestions for pharmacy operations improvement to the pharmacy leaders as appropriate.
- Performs clinical pharmacist job duties.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers to develop and review patient care plans.
- Ensure that all medication therapy is safe, effective, and tailored to individual patient needs, including adjusting therapy based on lab results, drug interactions, and patient-specific factors.
- Compounds and/or prepares medication for patients,
- Monitor medication therapy outcomes, adverse drug reactions, and medication errors, implementing strategies to minimize risk.
- Participates in Medication Utilization Evaluations (MUE), education, patient monitoring, Quality Improvement (QI) programs and drug information activities of the pharmacy.
What you will need:
- Bachelors Degree Pharmacy Required Or
- Doctorate Pharmacy Required Or
- 2 Years of pharmacy management experience in a hospital or healthcare setting.
- Current pharmacist licensure in the state of Illinois. Required
