Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The UNC Adams School of Dentistry Division of Comprehensive Oral Health houses several disciplines including, Periodontology, Dental Hygiene, Comprehensive Dentistry, Operative Dentistry/BioMaterials, Prosthodontics, and Endodontics. The Periodontology discipline focuses on the prevention and treatment of gum disease, as well as the management of gum and tissue inflammation resulting from existing dental conditions
Position Summary
The Marchesan Lab is seeking for a Lab Research Specialist to support the research activities located at the Adams School of Dentistry, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Our lab is focused on interrogating periodontal disease pathogenesis, specifically on how different innate immune players drive gingival breakdown and periodontal tissue destruction.

The position opened is for a highly specialized technical expert that can effectively navigate through samples derived from multiple large projects. The Lab Research Specialist is responsible for developing research plans planning specific approach and coordinating the order of experimental procedures, reading literature relating to procedures, modifying and adapting procedures to suit project objectives-conducting the experiments-recording and analyzing and interpreting data. May initiate minor deviations in experimental design as necessary.

The candidate will work directly with Dr. Marchesan and her team of researchers to provide support for ongoing and new studies. The applicant must possess good problem-solving and excellent organizational skills and have the knowledge to maintain standard laboratory operations. Daily activities include:

* Oversee day-to-day laboratory operations (ensure that all equipment is properly maintained and calibrated)
* Assist, coordinate, and support laboratory research work activities and ensure there is adequate equipment and consumables to support the projects
* Use standard lab equipment and properly maintain records from experiments
* Support administrative work such as protocol development
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Management Preferences
* Considerable experience in biological sciences, biotechnology, biochemistry, or related field.
* Ability to use and maintain standard lab equipment
* Experience with ordering, invoice tracking, or maintaining laboratory stocks
* Ability to work with human and mouse samples
* Ability to work in a collaborative team
