Lone Star College-System Office employees are based at one of two System Office locations; The Woodlands and University Park. Both are the site for multiple administrative departments and system-wide training programs.

Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The PT Business Analyst supports the Office of Governance, Accountability and Compliance (OGAC) assigned department by providing query development, data analysis, reporting, and project coordination in support of System compliance operations. Interfaces with other departments sch as the Office of Technology Services (OTS), Analytics and Institutional Reporting (AIR), and third-party technical administrators. The position generally works with moderate to limited guidance from others and utilizes prior knowledge and experience in the performance of their duties.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Develops, maintains, and documents data queries to extract, validate, and analyze information from multiple systems and platforms
  2. Supports existing and new systems and platforms by evaluating data integrity, system functionality, and reporting capabilities
  3. Troubleshoots data and system issues, performs root cause analysis, conducts testing, and collaborates with stakeholders to implement validated solutions
  4. Designs, executes, and documents system and platform test plans to ensure accurate, reliable, and auditable data and reports
  5. Identifies business system solution requirements by meeting with decision makers, system owners, and end users.
  6. Evaluates options for system enhancements or new solutions and recommends approaches that strengthen compliance frameworks, improve data quality and integrity, and streamline processes
  7. Creates clear, user-friendly reports, dashboards, and analyses using query and other analytical tools (Power BI, Excel Access)
  8. Documents requirements for internal and external system interfaces, reports, workflows, job aids and security access to support the department's business needs.
  9. Maintains current working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and institutional regulations that impact the department's scope of work
  10. Seeks new ways to improve efficiency, and makes recommendations to management as needed
  11. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Exceptional working knowledge of PCs and related software with a focus on Excel, MS Word, and Adobe Acrobat Pro
  • Highly proficient with common office software; advanced knowledge of spreadsheets, formulas and database programs such as Microsoft Excel, Access, Power BI and other reporting software
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal English communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive information

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:

  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of related experience (i.e., experience pulling data to analyze and monitor to inform and support management decisions), or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated experience in Excel, SQL, Tableau and/or Power BI
  • Demonstrated experience in data extraction and report development

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in higher education technology or analyst positions, compliance
  • MS Office Suite expert
  • Oracle PeopleSoft experience
Salary

Hourly Pay Rate is $27.14.
