The
Geiger Gibson Program in Community Health in the
Department of
Health Policy and Management seeks a full-time
Research Scientist. The Research Scientist works with the Program Director and Research Director in planning, designing, and conducting wide-ranging health policy research focusing on community health centers, the health care safety net and medically underserved communities and populations. This individual helps plan research studies, develops and implements surveys and other qualitative analyses, analyzes and interprets both quantitative and qualitative data, and prepares research findings for publication. The scope of this work requires statistical analysis skills, experience analyzing qualitative data, data management experience and strong writing skills.
Duties include:
- Designs and conducts policy research.
- Collects, processes, and analyses data.
- Performs statistical analyses, including selecting the appropriate analysis procedure, setting up data for analysis, judging validity and reliability of data, designing and writing programs to perform analyses, and producing written reports on the result of the analyses.
- Presents project results to internal and external parties.
- Develops survey questionnaires and focus group and interview guides.
- Writes briefs, blogs, reports, and articles for peer-reviewed and other publications.
The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
The position is based at GW's Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, DC. |
| Minimum Qualifications: |
Qualified candidates will hold a Master's degree plus 5 years of experience or a PhD plus 2 years of experience in a related discipline to include at least 2 years of research and/or college level teaching in a field basic to the work to be performed. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. |

| Preferred Qualifications: |
- Experience working on health center, health care safety net, Medicaid and related policy topics.
- An understanding and familiarity with key national or state health care data sets.
- Significant knowledge in quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
- Proficient use of statistical programs, e.g., SAS, STATA, SPSS, R.
- Ability to work well both independently and in a team setting. General experience with analyzing health policies, regulations, or legislation.
- Strong verbal communication and exceptional writing skills.
- Experience using research to support development of funding proposals.
