Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Administrative Director, oversee daily clinical operations to ensure efficient and high-quality care delivery to youth at the Juvenile Justic Center (JJC). Manage nursing staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluations. Ensure compliance with all regulatory standards and guidelines, including infection control and safety protocols maintaining operations and facilities in a state of constant readiness for regulatory inspections. Develop and implement clinical policies, procedures, and workflows to optimize patient care and staff efficiency. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support care coordination and quality improvement initiatives. Monitor and manage budgets, supplies, and resources to maintain operational efficiency. Foster a positive work environment that promotes teamwork, professional development, and staff retention. Address challenges related to serving underserved young adult populations while ensuring equitable access to care.

Ensures department meets all regulatory requirements as related to Title 15 and the NCCHC (National Commission on Correction Health Center). Apply correctional facility nursing principles, practices, and procedures to ensure compliance within the county correctional facility.

Manages the delivery of ambulatory patient care, which typically includes nursing, and may include laboratory, radiology, dental, etc. Facilitates the flow of patient care activities; may also participate in practice or center management operations.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $191,800 - $256,600 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The Juvenile Justice Center (JJC) is a UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital (BCH) medical unit providing essential primary care to youth at the Alameda County facility. As a comprehensive care site for onsite medical consultation and medication management, the JJC operates a primary care clinic staffed by UCSF physicians five days per week, delivering 24/7 critical healthcare to a largely underserved population.

This role provides strategic leadership to ensure clinical services and workflows remain consistent across both the JJC and the broader BCH enterprise.

Required Qualifications


  • One - three years of previous related department experience in a detention center
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
  • Registered Nurse in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association BLS certification
  • Strong clinic / center patient care management skills. Practice management knowledge in scheduling, customer-service methods, regulatory compliance, accreditation requirements, and / or information technology. Broad knowledge of patient population served and the requirements for the delivery of services.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to create and maintain a climate for effective communication and collaborative decision making.
  • Strong leadership, fiscal, and operations management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, management, and staff from all disciplines. Ability to create and maintain a goal-oriented climate of teamwork, collaboration, and consistent achievement of objectives.
  • Knowledge of relevant healthcare information technology and patient care workflows and processes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing, and compliance environments.
  • Proven ability to organize, manage multiple priorities, and delegate work functions efficiently.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging best practices and technologies in the clinic / center healthcare industry.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Two - three years of progressive supervisory/leadership experience
  • Master's Degree
  • Active American Heart Association PALS certification

License/Certification


  • Registered Nurse in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association BLS certification
