Job Summary Reporting to the Senior Director of Finance in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, & Reproductive Sciences (OBGYN&RS), the Director of Clinical Finance is responsible for the overall financial management of the department's UCSF Health clinical enterprise. This position will partner with the Senior Director of Finance in creating and maintaining a robust clinical finance reporting and analytics framework that focuses on financial integrity, customer service, monthly/quarterly financial reporting, coding and billing reviews, department budget planning, and other strategic initiatives as directed by the Chair, CAO, and/or Senior Director of Finance.
The Director of Clinical Finance manages all clinical finance activities for a complex portfolio in the Department of OBGYN & Reproductive Sciences that generates 50% of the department's revenue. This portfolio encompasses a blend of revenue streams from UCSF Health Funds Flow, Professional Service Agreements (PSAs), and other Health System agreements, reflecting funds that span both the campus and health system environments. This position holds fiduciary responsibility to ensure financial planning and actions adhere to university and system wide policies and guidelines.
This position provides direct oversight and management of a team of Financial Analysts, with accountability for setting clear expectations, developing standardized policies and workflows, and ensuring appropriate internal controls are in place. The individual will actively supervise staff performance, monitor progress toward goals, and serve as the escalation point for complex financial issues and discrepancies. The Director is responsible for both the quality and timeliness of the team's work, ensuring that the OBGYN&RS clinical finance enterprise operates effectively and meets its strategic and operational objectives.
The ideal candidate will have advanced financial experience specifically managing complex financial operations, budgets, and healthcare coding/billing and revenue management. They will bring demonstrated experience leading and developing high-performing finance teams, including setting strategic direction, establishing internal controls, and overseeing staff performance and accountability. They will also need to possess a strong understanding and have the ability to create complex financial models while also being able to explain issues for vast audience comprehension. Hybrid working conditions will also be required where set days will be at the discretion of the Senior Director of Finance and/or based on business need. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $144,000 - $216,000 (Annual Rate). Department Description The Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences (Ob, Gyn & RS) is a major academic Department in the School of Medicine, engaged in clinical, research and training activities at the Parnassus, Mount Zion, and Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital campuses, the new Betty Irene Moore Women's Hospital at Mission Bay, as well as satellite locations throughout the Bay Area, with an annual operating budget of $149 million. The Department has 134 full-time faculty, 117 other academic appointees, 13 post-doctoral fellows, 22 clinical fellows, 32 residents, 138 voluntary clinical faculty and 270 staff.

Required Qualifications
- Advanced degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
- Minimum 6 years of experience in financial analysis, planning and management with increasing levels of complexity or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 6 years of experience in financial management, reporting, forecasting and analysis as well as developing financial reports, templates, policies, and processes for use by and understanding of others.
- Minimum of 6 years of financial experience specifically managing complex financial operations, budgets, and healthcare coding/billing and revenue management. Understanding, interpreting, analyzing, and creating complex financial models while also being able to explain issues in lay terms.
- Minimum 5+ years' prior experience in a supervisory/lead, management or leadership role directly involved in managing staff.
- Comprehensive knowledge of finance and budget policies, practices and systems; budgeting and reporting techniques; fund accounting; human resource planning; accounting and bookkeeping.
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
- Interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively across the organization at all levels; ability to interact with diverse populations.
- Client services oriented; good listening, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
- Ability to multi-task.
- Knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in an academic medical institution.
- Experience working with UC Campus and Medical Center Financial Systems such as MyReports, Advance, PeopleSoft or Oracle based applications.
- Excellent leadership, fiscal, and operations management skills, with the ability to collaboratel effectively with physicians/faculty, senior leadership/management, and staff from all disciplines.
