Position Summary:
The Communicative AI Analyst (Hourly) will contribute to the design, development, and evaluation of multimodal AI-driven communication systems. This role focuses on building and studying conversational interfaces powered by large language models (LLMs), with an emphasis on integrating advances in the generative AI stack into usable, research-oriented prototypes.
The Analyst will survey and analyze emerging technologies for multimodal AI communication, identify appropriate tools and frameworks, and translate research insights into functional user interfaces for interacting with LLMs. Responsibilities include developing front-end and interaction components (with JavaScript experience a plus), implementing backend integrations with language models, and iteratively refining systems aligned with research goals.
In addition to technical development, the Analyst will document progress through concise weekly summaries and actively participate in group meetings to discuss findings, challenges, and next steps. The position requires strong academic preparation, the ability to work independently on research-driven development tasks, and a demonstrated understanding of conversational AI systems and generative model workflows.
Overall, this role bridges research and implementation, supporting the creation of communicative AI systems that are both technically rigorous and human-centered.
Essential Functions:
-Research current technology for developing multimodal AI-driven communication.
-Develop UIs for interacting with LLMs.
-Submit result summaries weekly.
-Attend group meetings.
Prerequisite Qualifications:
-Knowledge of LLMs.
-Demonstrated experience working with the generative AI stack.
-Demonstrated experience in developing conversational interfaces.
-Demonstrated academic performance in coursework and/or research.
-At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
Preferred Qualifications:
-It is a plus if you have experience in JavaScript.
Salary Information:
In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the hourly rate for this position is $40.00 (USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items.
