Each of the university's eight undergraduate colleges has its own academic program through which students fulfill the university's writing requirements and engage the unique focus of the college. These programs are central to each college's student life and academic vision and reflect the college's mission statement and educational philosophy, providing a general education foundation on which students build disciplinary expertise in their majors and upper-division coursework. While the structure, subject matter, and educational approach of these programs vary by college, all are designed to help students develop the core competencies of written communication, oral communication, critical thinking, and information literacy. John Muir College, one of UC San Diego's eight undergraduate colleges, seeks applicants for non-tenure-track lecturer positions in the Muir College Writing Program(MCWP). These positions are eligible for continuing status after 18 successful quarters of teaching. Appointments will be part-time and annual. Teaching evaluations, sample syllabi, and letters of recommendation may be required if the applicant is selected for an interview. In this program, lecturers teach writing and course content in seminar-style classes and are responsible for assessing student work. Muir College Writing Program engages students in critical thinking, reading, and writing. Courses require students to move beyond basic entry-level competency and produce university-level academic discourse. Students are expected to comprehend complex textual arguments and demonstrate strong analytical writing skills. The program offers three thematic course threads: Humanities, Science, and Environmental/Social Justice. Muir Writing Home Page Qualifications Basic qualifications
