Description
The VP, Business Development and Strategy will have a comprehensive understanding and strong creation and execution of business development opportunities and executing the strategy at all levels of the organization, from day to day projects to 5-year strategy, and will ensure alignment across Children's National, as well as with its external environment. The VP is a member of the executive leadership council and will lead the process to define the most strategically insightful ways to fully leverage CN's assets and market opportunities and to assist executives as they fully implement these initiatives. The VP will define and implement means to engage leaders throughout the organization in the process of defining strategic and business plans. The VP will also serve to give greater visibility of strategic plans throughout the organization and promote a management culture to coordinate day-to-day decisions with overall strategy. The VP will report directly to an L1 Executive and will work closely with executive team at Children's National to ensure vision, strategy, goals, initiatives and all units and functions are aligned.
Qualifications
Minimum Education Bachelor's Degree in health administration, business administration or related field. (Required) And Master's Degree in health administration, business administration or related field. (Preferred)
Minimum Work Experience 10 years progressive leadership related experience and supervisory/management experience in related job function (Required)
Required Skills/Knowledge Experience in business development Experience in strategy development and implementation with demonstrated results. Successful experience with large facility development projects. Demonstrated ability to think proactively about the evolving health care environment.
Functional Accountabilities Strategic Business Planning and Execution
- Develops a strategic pipeline for future growth opportunities aligned to the 5 -years strategic plan. Identifies and develops and executes clinical affiliations in key partnership with Chief Financial Officer, Chief Legal Officer, Chief Clinical Officer and Chief of Operations and others to ensure alignment and execution.
- Fosters effective engagement lifecycle through partnership identification, development of partnership strategies and initiatives, continuous engagement with partners and internal leaders.
- Monitors current progress of measures and reports KPIs post implementation and recommends change as needed and adjust priorities. Partners with key executives and clinical leaders to foster ongoing positive partnership relationships.
- Works with and across all business units, in close collaboration with the COO, physician partners and others to establish specific strategy implementation plans, deliverables, and measurable objectives in order to drive progress and achieve targeted results.
- With the vision and direction of the CEO and Board and partnering with key executives, executes the long-term strategies and priorities for the organization and ensures the successful execution of the strategic priorities and supporting activities to meet all milestones.
- Ensures the strategic plan development process includes an enterprise wide plan that will shape the functional areas' strategic planning processes: formalized and enterprise-wide, forge new working relationships and synergies; establish transparency and accountability; involve all senior level administrative and clinical leaders, board members and other key stakeholders; incorporate the use of new technology; include a new approach to strategy, vision and goals; and include metrics for accountability and a solid plan for implementation.
- Clarifies CN's strategy at all levels of the organization to ensure an understanding of the details of the plan and how individual work efforts connect to corporate goals. A clear understanding must be in place at all levels of the enterprise, from the bedside to the board room.
- Conducts ongoing market analysis to identify emerging opportunities or obstacles within the competitive landscape using contemporary and validated strategy methods and applications.
- Ensures members of the Leadership team come to agreement on strategy decisions and make sure strategy decisions are not ignored as they are translated and achieved throughout the organization.
Strategy Integration with Operations
- Focuses the organization on executing today, not just planning for tomorrow, and executes to best in class operations standards.
- Responsible to ensure all areas of oversight are functioning as optimally as possible from an operations and strategy perspective; and these areas are functioning well with each other to ensure best strategic execution and alignment throughout the enterprise.
- Develops and implements a common organization-wide system to track how programs and projects are maintaining synchronization with the strategic plan.
Strategic Growth and Business Development
- Identifies and develops any potential future joint strategic relationships in partnership with key executives at the local, regional and national levels; and this could include alliances, joint ventures, acquisitions, partnerships and other important affiliations; serve as the point person to assess whether strategic initiatives at all levels throughout the organization are aligned with CN's strong standards and objectives.
- Leads a process to analyze external opportunities to leverage CN's value and the health care needs of the pediatric population it serves; and continue to advance Children's National to a top five ranking among pediatric organizations in the United States.
- Designs and implements feasibility studies to determine viability of potential new clinical programs and other business growth opportunities.
- Oversees the development and execution of all market research and other analytic service to evaluate and/or support CN's strategic growth and business development endeavors.
Human Capital and Relationship Management
- Assesses and monitors organizational requirements and align the assigned corporate function(s) or business complex to effectively and efficiently meet organizational needs.
- Defines, sets and utilizes appropriate performance and quality measures for the assigned corporate function(s) or business complex.
- Builds the breadth and depth of the organization's human capacity through competency assessment, succession planning and career development.
- Establishes, builds and sustains professional contacts with key stake holders internally and externally.
- Establishes industry partnerships in partnership with other leaders to support the mission and make the organization more competitive.
