Position Summary

We are currently recruiting a Director of Simulation to manage overall operations including simulation education, supervision of staff, and the coordination of inter-professional activities. Partner with faculty and staff to develop scholarly activities that evaluate simulation's impact on healthcare education.

The Director is pivotal to the expansion of the college by managing a comprehensive evaluation plan, prepare and analyze data and fiscal reports for college leadership to support budgeting and strategic planning of simulation activities.

The selected applicant must maintain a primary residence in the Albuquerque area (including surrounding communities such as Rio Rancho, Los Lunas, Belen, Edgewood, and Santa Fe) and be able to reliably commute to the College of Nursing in Albuquerque.

Job duties include but not limited to:

  • Demonstrating an entrepreneurial mindset in the expansion of simulation operations.
  • Participating in building and maintaining relationships with community and HSC partners
  • Create detailed expenditure forecasts and variance analysis for simulation programs
  • Managing staff in the coordination and interaction with internal and external customers
  • Develop multi-year projection and budget plans for simulation and skills labs, incorporating capital equipment lifecycle, consumables, staffing, and software licensing to ensure fiscal sustainability and alignment with academic goals
  • Implement capacity-based financial modeling to optimize utilization of simulation assets, achieving cost-per-student targets and improving ROI on high-fidelity equipment investments
  • Collaborate with finance and academic leadership to align simulation lab budgets with enrollment growth and accreditation requirements, ensuring compliance and operational efficiency
  • Model utilization (student counts, cohort mix, lab hours, scenario throughput)
  • Tie spending to learning outcomes and operational metrics (competency gains, pass rates, remediation avoided)
  • Track actuals vs. forecast and refine assumptions quarterly
  • Employee relations management
  • Systems and technology management
  • Creating, maintaining and updating Policies and Procedures

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

  • MBA or related degree
  • Simulation experience (Simulation Technology, Education or Operations)
  • Evidence of scholarly activities such as quality improvement initiatives focused on simulation.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience
  • CHSE or CHSOS certification
  • Experience in multi-year projection and budget planning
  • A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities
