Job Description

General Summary

Vertex's Data, Technology and Engineering (DTE) organization is seeking a Technology Portfolio Management Director to join our Project Management and Strategic Operations (PMSO) team. Project Management and Strategic Operations is charged with streamlining and simplifying the work of our data and technology teams and ensuring the successful deployment of new technologies across our global enterprise. The Director, Technology Portfolio Management will report to our Senior Director of Project Management and Strategic Operations and partner directly with our Chief Information Security Officer and Vice President, Data & Software Engineering to oversee the Information Security and Data & Software Engineering project portfolios of new technology implementations. The role requires portfolio planning, financial management, governance, and oversight of program, project and change management. The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker, demonstrate a deep understanding of portfolio, program and project management and expertise in the deployment of enterprise technologies for information security, data management, reporting and analytics.

Responsibilities include:

  • Management of Information Security and Data & Software Engineering new technology implementation portfolios

  • Maintaining technology roadmaps, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities, and resource and capacity management

  • Developing and managing governance processes for technology implementations to ensure tight coupling to business requirements, executive sponsorship, and strategic priorities

  • Co-developing communication decks for regular portfolio reviews and presentations to executive leadership

  • Co-facilitating technology strategy and portfolio review meetings with senior leaders

  • Influencing cross-functional stakeholders to ensure strategic thinking, sound decision-making, and proactive risk/ issue mitigation across the portfolio

  • Managing, coaching, and training all project managers for Information Security and Data & Software Engineering Technology implementations to ensure excellence in project delivery

  • Communicating portfolio status to DTE leadership and the Senior Director of Project Management and Strategic Operations to ensure cross-functional awareness and alignment

  • Managing the portfolio financials including budget planning, forecasting and accruals

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree with strong experience in biotechnology in an information technology setting

  • 10 years of experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in project, program and/or portfolio management and exceptional organization and planning skills

  • Experience in management of information security, data and engineering technology deployments

  • Proven track record of successfully managing complex information technology projects, coordinating cross-functional teams, and delivering results within defined timelines and budgets

  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate information security and data and software engineering technological concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders cross-functionally and at all levels of the organization

  • Clear and succinct written and verbal communication is strongly preferred

  • Strong, hands-on experience managing all financial components of project, program and portfolio planning and delivery, including budgeting, forecasting and accruals

  • Proven ability to mentor, coach and motivate program and project managers in a way the enables collective success and development

Pay Range:

$185,400 - $278,200

Disclosure Statement:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
