Medical Scheduler - Onsite (Contract-to-Hire) *Location:* Columbia, MD (Primary) | Occasional travel to Eldersburg, MD
*Schedule:* 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM or 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM *Start Date:* March 16, 2026 *Interview Date:* March 10, 2026 About the Role A busy medical office is seeking a reliable and detail-driven Medical Scheduler to support patients, physicians, and clinical staff. This role requires strong communication skills, excellent professionalism, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Attendance and reliability are crucial due to the needs of the office and previous turnover from other agencies. This is a contract-to-hire position with strong potential for permanent employment based on performance. Responsibilities Patient Communication and Front Office Support * Answer incoming calls and route appropriately. * Document and relay messages accurately and in a timely manner. * Provide high-level customer service as the first point of contact for patients. Scheduling and Coordination * Schedule new, return, and referred patient appointments within the EMR. * Manage cancellations and rescheduling per office and physician guidelines. * Maintain and update office scheduling templates including physician coverage, rounding, and meetings. Insurance and Billing Support * Enter insurance authorizations and referral documentation into patient charts. * Collect co-pays, deductibles, and other patient-responsible balances. * Coordinate financial counseling appointments when needed. Administrative Duties * Prepare and complete various forms, letters, and correspondence. * Assist with general front-office duties and provide coverage as needed. * Maintain HIPAA compliance and protect patient confidentiality. Surgical and Testing Support (As Needed) * Schedule outpatient appointments, procedures, tests, and surgeries. * Obtain required pre-certifications. * Explain prep instructions and follow-up requirements to patients. * Track required pre-operative testing to ensure surgical readiness. * Schedule post-operative follow-up appointments. Qualifications Required * High school diploma or equivalent * 1-3 years of experience (medical office preferred) * Strong written and verbal communication skills * Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) * Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and consistent attendance Preferred * Medical office or healthcare scheduling experience * EMR experience * Basic understanding of medical terminology and coding * Epic experience * Insurance verification exposure * Healthcare experience is preferred, but candidates with excellent customer service backgrounds will be considered if they meet the expectations above. Work Environment * Fully onsite * One week of initial training in Eldersburg, MD * Primary worksite in Columbia, MD * Expected to float to Eldersburg occasionally as needed * Fast-paced medical office with direct patient interaction Contract *Contract Length:* 6 months, contract-to-hire *Job Type & Location* This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Columbia, MD. *Pay and Benefits*The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $18.00/hr.
