The System Service Chief of Quality, HCH and Sala Institute, directs the vision, strategy, and goals for the quality and safety program and quality outcomes in the care of children across NYU Langone Health. This includes quality and safety programmatic oversight for children cared for at all NYU Langone Health (NYULH) hospitals (NYU Langone Health Brooklyn, NYU Langone Health - Suffolk, Hassenfeld Children's Hospital and NYU Langone - Long Island).

This key leader provides innovative thought leadership, oversight, planning and direction for clinical and operational quality and safety programs and improvement initiatives for care of children across inpatient, ambulatory article 28 locations, perioperative areas, KiDS ED, diagnostic and treatment areas.

This leader will partner with the System Senior Director of Sala Institute for Child and Family Centered

Care to direct the strategy and goals for quality and advancing Child and Family Centered Care at NYULH.

This leader will work collaboratively with medical and surgical staff, nursing, administrative leaders, and patients and families to develop and implement quality and safety programs.

This role reports to the Chair of Pediatrics and Vice President, HCH. Related to Quality-Safety Program responsibilities, additionally accountable to the Chief Medical Officer of NYULH.

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables:

In concert with the NYU Langone Health Quality/Safety model and, reflecting national best practices for the care of children, leads the comprehensive quality, safety, and performance improvement plan/program inclusive of a comprehensive measurement strategy and, a robust cause analysis program. This includes the following specific responsibilities:

* Manages externally reported quality metrics for HCH and all pediatric age patients including, but not limited to the following:

SPS HAC measures and harm equity measures for all children (Clinical Leader for System Participation in SPS)

Vizient operational efficiency quality measures for all children

DOH reported sepsis metrics

CHA Inpatient Essentials metrics (Clinical Leader for System Participation in IE)

NHSN hospital acquired infections in children

Consultative responsibility for: STS reported cardiothoracic surgical measures, NSQIP/ACS reported surgical measures, VON reported measures, TJC reported patient safety measures connected to maternal-newborn care

* Manages internally reported quality and safety metrics pertaining to the care of children

(dashboards, scorecards and unit/program-based data)

* Collaborates to ensure a coordinated, system-based, and consistent approach to care and supporting clinical processes

* Has oversight of pediatric quality and safety leaders at NYULH - Manhattan, NYULH -Brooklyn, NYULH - Long Island and any additional hospitals that provide care to children.

* Collaborates with Sala Institute and HCH leaders to lead the advancement of Sala Institute for Child and Family Centered Care, which leads and funds resources for the quality and safety program

* Champions the advancement of HRO Culture with the aim of consistent use of safety behaviors and partnership behaviors to drive exceptional outcomes

* Supports a culture that promotes, and aligns with NYULH values of performance, respect, integrity, diversity, and excellence

* Has oversight of timely review of safety reporting system (PSI) events in children and appropriate escalation

* Has oversight of the system that identifies, analyzes, and responds to safety events and near misses including and not limited to PSI reports, escalations, and healthcare-acquired infections/harm

* Assures and manages review of safety events as well as planning for, completing, and presenting safety event analysis including unit-based ACAs and service-based RCAs; ensures the tracking, implementation and monitoring of resulting action plans and dissemination of learnings across children's services

* Based upon internal data, external best practices and innovative thinking, collaborates with the medical, nursing and administrative leadership to identify, prioritize and lead data driven quality/performance improvement initiatives

* Promotes the standardization of evidence-based treatment strategies through development and adherence to pediatric clinical pathways, to ensure that every patient is receiving the best possible care in alignment with leveled evidence

* Provides leadership and oversight to Children's Services Quality and Safety Committee and Children's Services Quality Data Review Committee

* Provides leadership for children's services quality Subcommittees including: Clinical Pathways, Operational Efficiency & Quality, Children's Services Health Equity

* Provides consultative expertise and guidance to children's services quality Subcommittees including: Pediatric HAC Subcommittees, Pediatric Sepsis, Pediatric Medication Safety Committee, Pediatric Clinical Nutrition Committee, and HCH Surgical Performance

* Provides leadership and management of system-wide improvement and annual reporting of system wide Children's Services presentations to Safety Action Group (SAG) and Quality Improvement Committee (QIC)

* Preparation, data validation, and compliance review for any necessary regulatory agency survey or site visit requiring quality or safety data/reports related to the care of children on the Manhattan campus (DOH, TJC, Vizient, USN&WR, SPS etc)

* Serves as a representative for Children's Services at standing NYULH Manhattan Campus and System-wide meetings (e.g. Quality Improvement Committee, EXPRT Committee, Medical Board and others as requested)

* Serves as a member of the NYULH-TH Occurrence Review Committee, examining occurrences of pediatric mortality

* Collaborates with the Sala Family and Youth Advisory Councils to advance the quality and safety of care

* Designs, leads and supports educational programs focused on pediatric quality improvement and safety science

* Management of QI physician support to leaders/teams in the areas of harm prevention, quality improvement, patient experience and safety event response

* Contributes to the published evidence related to improving pediatric quality and patient safety

Compensation: Beyond a dynamic work atmosphere, we offer a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package. Base salary $350-450k

The salary range listed is for full-time employment and does not include incentive compensation or benefits. Actual salary may not fall within the listed salary range; consideration will be made for experience, training, hospital/community need, and other factors.

Education and Work Experience:

* MD/DO with current license

* Minimum of five to seven years of clinical experience

* Understanding of care processes provided in multiple areas of the hospital

* Prior leadership responsibility with a proven track record of implementing change in a complex environment and academic medical center

* Ability to translate broad strategies into specific objectives and initiatives

* Experience leading a high performing quality and safety team within a hospital and/or health system.

* Working and applied knowledge of performance improvement methodology and safety science

* Active regionally and nationally across the domains of quality
