The Position:

The City of Carlsbad Library & Cultural Arts Department (L&CA) is currently seeking qualified applicants for the Volunteer Coordinator (part-time) position. This position will support the volunteer program for L&CA including recruiting volunteers, processing volunteer applications and placing volunteers in positions to support the needs of the department.

This position works closely with staff throughout the department and city as well as with members of the public and volunteers. A highly qualified applicant will be team-oriented, self-motivated, possess excellent customer service skills, be well organized with strong attention to detail and be an effective communicator both verbally and in writing.

The Volunteer Coordinator is expected to work at all three Library locations. Scheduled work hours are expected to be 12 - 18 hours a week and may include some nights and weekends.

  • Works with staff to assess volunteer needs and develop volunteer position descriptions
  • Develops volunteer opportunities to support L&CA services, events, and programs
  • Creates a welcoming atmosphere conducive to encouraging volunteer participation
  • Recruit, assess and process volunteer applications including qualification, reference and background reviews
  • Leads volunteer orientations incorporating city policies, including respectful workplace and safety in the workplace
  • Recognize volunteers by planning and coordinating events or other activities.
  • Maintain and monitor confidential records pertaining to volunteers to ensure accuracy and up to date information.
  • Provide statistical data on various volunteer programs throughout L&CA.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Possess excellent customer service and written/verbal communication skills
  • Able to work cooperatively with the public and staff
  • Able to work independently while managing multiple tasks with attention to detail
  • Proficient in working with various computer applications and databases, including but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint


Experience & Education

  • Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would qualify
  • Previous volunteer coordination experience in a professional capacity is highly desire
* Part-time employee cannot exceed 980 total hours worked within one fiscal year.
