SUMMARY

The Assistant Solicitor - Office of Children and Youth serves as a legal advisor and representative for the County's Office of Children and Youth Services. This position provides legal support, guidance, and representation to the county's child welfare agency. This position is within the Office of Children and Youth Practice Unit of the Solicitor's Office. We offer a collaborative work environment, where solicitors from all practice areas work together to develop the best solutions for clients.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Represent the Office of Children and Youth (OCY) in juvenile dependency, Orphans' Court, and administrative proceedings.
  • Prepare cases for litigation, including reviewing evidence, developing case theories and strategies, preparing witnesses and exhibits and advising OCY on legal positions and case recommendations.
  • Draft and timely file pleadings, motions, and briefs in various legal proceedings.
  • Provide day-to-day legal advice and counsel toOCY.
  • Review record requests and release of documents for OCY.
  • Participate in case reviews and team meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education and Credentials

Law degree from an accredited law school and member in good standing of the Pennsylvania Bar or another state bar with a commitment to becoming a member of the Pennsylvania Bar.


Experience, Core Competencies, and Skills
  • Minimum of 3+ years of related experience, with a focus on working with government agencies and experience in dependency, Orphan's Court proceedings and administrative proceedings.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills, with the ability to articulate legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently with minimal supervision.
