Job Summary

The primary responsibility of the Staff Research Associate (SRA I) under supervision, is to serve as the point person for day-to-day Zebrafish Core Facility operations by prioritizing tasks based on leadership goals, and ensuring the facility is set up for success each day. Support research goals by applying scientific background to optimize fish husbandry and best practices for raising Zebrafish for a full life cycle. The SRA will also prepare facility and support LARC inspections.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $26.00 - $31.04 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description

The primary mission of the Cardiovascular Research Institute, the largest organized research unit on the San Francisco campus, is to promote fundamental and clinical research on the cardiovascular and pulmonary respiratory systems and to provide opportunities for postdoctoral training in these fields. With over 200 faculty, staff, and postdoctoral fellows, the CVRI supports faculty from a variety of departments (Medicine, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Lab Medicine, Pediatrics, Anatomy, Anesthesia, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Physiology, Cellular and Molecular Pharmacology). The total extramural funding is $29 million annually (direct and indirect costs), with $1M in indirect cost return, and $561K in State funds. Assets include $38 million in endowment income and gifts, $3M in clinical reserves, and $5.8M in opportunity funds.

Required Qualifications


  • BA/BS with a degree in Biology or a related science and knowledge of, or experience with, the basic techniques or methods required by the position; and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge/experience working directly in zebrafish care, use, and husbandry.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Zebrafish husbandry training through an established course such as the University of Alabama course, or similar training.
