ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



  • Communicate with Field Manager, Customer Service Representatives and Port Representatives as necessary to gather information regarding ship arrivals, allocations, special campaigns and priority orders.
  • Based on projected work load, schedule appropriate number of employees to insure timely completion, quality and the most efficient utilization of staffing.
  • Communicate work assignments to Drivers and Shipping Coordinators and monitor progress toward completion throughout the day.
  • Adjust work assignments as necessary to accommodate needs of Port Representatives and other Departments.
  • Oversee the off-loading of vehicles to the designated area as instructed by the Field Manager.
  • Verify the number of vehicles off loaded and that the purification of the manifest is complete and accurate.
  • Keep work crew advised of changing priorities and assignments.
  • Plan vehicle movements in a manner that results in minimal wait time for Driver's and consolidate movement whenever possible.
  • Work with other Department Managers to facilitate the efficient processing of units through each department to the satisfaction of Port Representatives.
  • Trouble shoot as needed to facilitate the processing of damaged units or other units requiring special attention.
  • Provide orientation to new employees or temporary service employees regarding proper vehicle handling procedures, time keeping procedures, hazard communication standards and safe work practices.
  • Provide guidance and technical support to crew members on an ongoing basis regarding changing work procedures, safety precautions, etc.
  • Provide feedback to employees regarding performance. Prepare disciplinary notices and conduct counseling sessions with employees regarding performance deficiencies and/or failure to abide by established procedures and safe work practices. Keep Field Manager advised of any performance problems.
  • When needed, and with the assistance of Human Resources, select and hire new employees to maintain adequate staffing.
  • When needed and as required, participate in management meetings.
  • Serve as a role model to other employees in both work performance and adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Order supplies as needed.
  • Promote the goal of safety and the prevention of on-the-job accidents resulting in injury to employees and property.
  • Must have a spotter when backing up vehicles.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and follow all policies and procedures regarding safety.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.



Minimum Qualifications:



  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must have and obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC Badge).
  • Minimum of six (6) months experience in Field Department and working knowledge of specific account procedures.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Ability to effectively communicate, understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Must possess problem-solving abilities and be detail oriented.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Ability to record and verify numbers 17 characters in length.
  • Ability to drive both automatic and straight shift vehicles.
  • Ability to function within working conditions and physical requirements described above.
  • Ability to work assigned hours. Including overtime and weekends as needed.



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to endure long periods of sitting while driving a vehicle. Must be able to repeatedly get in and out of a vehicle during the work shift and step up approximately 18 inches into an open van.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Exposed to all outdoor elements including heat, cold, rain, insects, and other conditions which may exist from time to time.
