Description

This is a structured hybrid position which requires working in our Owatonna, MN facility: Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Wednesdays and Fridays are home office workdays. Therefore, candidates must reside within reasonable drivable distance to the facility.

Our team in Owatonna, MN is seeking a Cost Accountant who is responsible for ongoing analysis of product cost, development of new product cost, and margin analysis. The position provides timely and accurate financial guidance and analytics to all levels of management to inform key decision-making in pursuit of the company's financial and operational objectives.



At a minimum you'll need:



  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting
  • Three (3) years or related finance and/or accounting experience
  • Proven background with costing systems and solid understanding of accounting principles
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite of products
  • Strong analytical and problem resolution
  • Possess a positive, consultative mindset that promotes improvements in operating effectiveness
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills with ability to communicate with all levels of the organization
  • Proven strong organizational and prioritization skills
  • Ability to partner with professionals in all areas of the business
  • Manufacturing and project accounting experience

  • Experience with ERP systems
  • Professional certifications
  • Audit experience



As a Cost Accountant a typical day might include:



  • Maintaining an accurate standard costing system
  • Reporting on inventory and supporting inventory related processes: physical inventory, cycle counting and inventory reserve development and support
  • Participating with the month end financial close activities including, preparing necessary journal entries, account reconciliations, supporting analysis, etc., while ensuring an accurate and timely completion of the process
  • Researching and preparing variance analysis and explanations
  • Assisting in the development and preparation of regular management reporting
  • Partnering with various areas of the organization to assist in analyzing, summarizing, and reporting financial performance to drive decision-making
  • Supporting and participating in budgeting and forecasting
  • Preparing supporting documentation as needed for annual audits and tax preparation
  • Researching accounting issues for compliance with GAAP and implementing new and applicable accounting standards
  • Responding to internal and external customers in a timely and effective manner
  • Participating and helping to drive continuous improvement in the areas of accounting and reporting processes
