Job Summary

Seeking a highly motivated Research Technician for the human interactome project at Caltech. The successful candidate will provide technical data management and operational support for the laboratory, including maintaining quality control and reliable workflow.

Essential Job Duties
  • Perform experiments on the interactome involving use of the Merkin Tecan robot, Hamilton robot, Kuhner incubator, and other components of the BI robot lab.
  • Supervise the instruction of new technicians on robot protocols.
  • Participate in the design of new robot protocols.
  • Robot programming.
  • Enter interactome data into databases.
  • Provide support in lab instrument and equipment maintenance and tracking of instrument use.
  • Perform essential lab tasks such as buffer preparation and training and supervision of new lab assistants/interns.
  • Molecular cloning work on plasmid libraries.
  • Interpretation of DNA sequence and protein concentration data.
Basic Qualifications
  • B.S. in biological, biochemical, or chemical sciences.
  • 3 years of lab experience, including familiarity with plate-based biochemical, nucleic acid-based, or cell-based assays. In addition, must have:
    • 1 year of hands-on experience with interactome experiments using Merkin Tecan, Hamilton, Kuhner, and other BI robot lab systems.
    • 1 year of experience programming, troubleshooting, and contributing to the design of automated robotic workflows.
    • 1 year of hands-on molecular cloning experience with plasmid libraries.
    • 1 year of experience interpreting DNA sequence data and protein concentration data.
    • Familiarity with automated liquid handling platforms.
  • Strong computer skills, including familiarity with Excel, formulas, and assay data analysis and visualization.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and service-oriented mindset.
  • Willingness to learn new skills as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with automated liquid handling platforms, with a desire to acquire higher-level skills in this area.
  • Computer literacy and basic programming skills, preferably VBA/VB.NET in the MS Excel context.
  • Experience with MS Power BI for spreadsheet data analysis and visualization.

Hiring Range

$25.25 - $30.75 Per Hour

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
