About The Position

The Generation I&C Projects team supports capital projects at all non-nuclear energy centers including coal, natural gas, hydro, solar, and wind generating facilities. The Engineer performs engineering studies, design, and project management activities for new and existing power generation plant systems. Project scopes include instrumentation and control system upgrades and control system modifications in support of the addition or replacement of mechanical and electrical systems at the energy centers.

Engineer will primarily work from the Ameren DRC offices in south St. Louis County. This position includes a hybrid work environment which allows for remote work up to 2 days per week (except when construction activities require full time on site). The role also requires travel to Ameren's energy centers located throughout Missouri and Illinois. Information gathering day trips to sites occur throughout the year as needed, with construction windows typically occurring in the spring or fall. The Engineer is expected to be on site during construction/installation windows to oversee project work in the field.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage and/or support projects involving industrial control systems and instrumentation.

  • Perform preliminary engineering to determine project scope and analyze potential alternative solutions.

  • Develop cost and schedule estimates, assess and manage project risks, and submit project justifications for approval. Provide monthly updates to project forecasts and monitor project variances.

  • Upon project authorization, the engineer is responsible for developing a detailed design and working with drafting to create construction drawing packages (schematic, wiring, arrangement, etc).

  • Create/Modify control logic, configuration files, and operator graphics for energy center control systems.

  • Create specifications for equipment and construction contracts, analyze proposals, and issue POs to vendors.

  • Attend factory acceptance testing to ensure quality deliverables.

  • Manage construction activities and lead the checkout and start-up of the new equipment.

  • Provide engineering assistance to energy centers and other departments within the company on activities requiring experience and expertise with industrial control systems.

  • Interface with industry contacts and outside corporations, including consultants, contractors, and their employees.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering from an accredited college or university required.

Preferred skills:

  • Five or more years of relevant engineering experience preferred.

  • Experience managing projects or teams preferred.

  • Experience with industrial control systems (DCS, PLC, Instrumentation, VFDs, Control Valves, etc.) preferred.

  • Experience with industrial networking preferred.

  • PE License preferred.

  • PMP certificate preferred.

Additional Information
This position may require travel to Ameren Energy Centers within Ameren's service territory to support project work. May include day or overnight travel. Subject to occasional call-outs, nights, weekends, and/or holiday work to support energy centers.

Ameren's selection process includes a series of interviews and may include candidate testing and/or an individual aptitude or skill-based assessment. Specific details will be provided to qualified candidates.

Compensation Range:

$71,100.00 - $215,300.00

* This pay range encompasses multiple levels of the role. Career level and compensation depends upon applicant's credentials.

At Ameren, base salary is one component of a competitive compensation package for employees. Our pay ranges are broad to allow for movement within our organization and to accommodate different skill sets and levels of expertise. We take into consideration a variety of factors including, but not limited to, skills, abilities, experience, education, credentials, and internal equity when determining the base salary offered. Roles are eligible for additional rewards including annual incentive payments based on individual and company performance.
