POSITION SUMMARY

The Safety & Training Specialist serves as a key technical resource to develop and implement the health and safety program and apprenticeship training program. Ensures that working conditions at the site meet applicable federal and state laws. Develops and implements procedures and activities that will control and reduce losses at the site. Manages the completion of mandatory training and continuing education, maintaining accurate records and administering the Department of Labor and Idaho Forest Group apprenticeship programs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:



  • Comply with all company rules and regulations
  • Provide health and safety leadership and ensure a workplace free from serious hazards with a culture of health and safety across the facility.
  • Research and stay well informed on new regulations and develop initial recommendations for their implementation. Act as a resource to handle concerns regarding OSHA procedures and compliance.
  • Train and work with supervisors to perform incident investigations, including root cause analysis and follow-up. Administer and ensure compliance with IFG's post-accident drug and alcohol testing requirements
  • Manage new employee safety training and integration into the workforce.
  • Maintain and update division safety policies and procedures, providing training to supervisors, managers, and employees.
  • Maintain chemical product inventory in the SDS management system in partnership with the Environmental Manager and approve new chemical requests.
  • Update safety programs and ensure compliance with OSHA documentation requirements.
  • Develop and implement Job Safety Analysis (JSA's) and Safe Operating Procedures (SOP's).
  • Manage and facilitate the department safety committee.
  • Facilitate Department of Labor and Idaho Forest Group apprenticeship programs, including Filer, Boiler and Kiln Operator, Heavy Duty Mechanic, and Industrial Maintenance Mechanic apprenticeships.
  • Proctor tests for apprenticeship programs and assist employees in scheduling additional classes or tutoring if needed.
  • Manage progression ensuring apprentices meet program timelines (hours and education) and update the RAPIDS system as needed (add, remove, or complete apprentices).
  • Collaborate with the Maintenance Training Specialist to build and implement the annual maintenance training calendar.
  • Initiate contact with and work with vendors to bring training to the facility and schedule offsite training.
  • Utilize our Learning Management System (LMS) to develop, track, and maintain maintenance and safety training records. Regularly update supervisors, managers, and superintendent on employees' training status.
  • Other duties as needed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS



  • High School diploma required
  • Skills:

    • Strong communication and presentation skills
    • Organizational, planning, scheduling and problem-solving skills


  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Intermediate proficiency in RAPIDS.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Learning Management System (LMS) administration.
  • Knowledge of safety principles and OSHA requirements.
  • Knowledge of Industrial Hygiene including monitoring equipment (pumps, dosimeters, calibrators).
  • Ability to pass a drug and alcohol test, post-offer pre-employment physical, and background check.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS



  • Associate or bachelor's degree in safety or related field
  • Valid driver's license


PHYSICAL DEMANDS- Office, Finance, Corporate, Mill Supervisory


  • Ability to sit and/or stand for shift, reach with hands and arms, stoop, squat, bend at the waist, kneel, walk varying distance, and climb stairs.

  • Lift over 50 lbs. - rare Repetitive use of hands - constant for clerical duties

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Must be able to tolerate all weather elements, loud conditions, airborne particles (sawdust).
