This role is within the Chromalloy New York Engineering Organization. The position will support engineering through performing design of tooling and fixtures related to production, development and or process improvements



The job will lead and support the design requirements to support Chromalloy New York's special processes as well as the repair / manufacturing of high-pressure turbine airfoils and duct segments. The design engineer will be responsible for supporting ongoing production needs, design engineering, sustain existing associated with coating technologies. He/she will report regularly on project updates, lead, or participate in customer meetings, communicate with various organizations including Quality, Operations, Customer Support, ECOE in a matrix structure.



Must be willing to work onsite in Orangeburg, NY. No work from home option available.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


The duties and responsibilities regularly performed in this role include, but are not limited to:



  • The position will work closely with the Production, Repair Development and PMA NPI programs regarding all design requirements and needs.
  • Review blueprints, plans, and specifications and or other customer authorized documentation to clearly understand the internal and external customer needs.
  • Create required solid models for a variety of manufacturing process needs, including fixtures, gages, and shop aides for machining, welding, airflow, advanced coatings, and CMM.
  • Create CAD assemblies on multi detail CAD Models and constrain accordingly to maintain the integrity of the design.
  • Create blueprint drawings and apply geometric dimensioning and tolerance to meet design intent.
  • Revise and update existing drawings to reflect changes made in collaboration with the Engineering, tooling, and calibration departments.
  • Maintain up to date work in process log and tooling number assignment log.
  • Serve as an information source on planning, and design of manufacturing requirements.
  • Developing new tooling and inspection gage methods, building innovative tools and revamping tooling standards
  • Researching new suppliers and innovative tooling concepts
  • Project scheduling to test new tools and processes
  • Troubleshoot NPI (new product induction) and metrology calibration requirements
  • Creative and progressive thinking is required
  • Good communication skills enable the engineer to exchange tooling ideas with project managers, cost estimators and process engineers



EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:



  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering preferred. Other disciplines from an accredited university or college also considered.
  • Knowledge of standard drafting practices and procedures.
  • Proficient in part modeling and detailing experience using CAD software.
  • Experience in tooling design and development
  • 3 years or more experience in a manufacturing or similar environment
  • Knowledge of tool steels and materials tempered hardness suit to fit the required application a plus.
  • Skilled in associated software including Microsoft office.
