The Cancer Institute at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a (Hybrid) Post Award Accountant for the Clinical Research Trials Unit.

About the Opportunity

The Post-Award Accountant position will support WVU Cancer Institute by providing post-award accounting support for the Clinical Trials Research Unit (CTRU). The overall responsibility of this position is to gather and process financial transactions for WVUCI activities, and to provide accounting assistance to researchers. Other primary functions include: staff payroll, maintenance of accurate and complete financial records/documentation pertaining to budgets, contracts, and unit finances; organizational management of all financial aspects of the clinical trials; communication of all budget/contractual related issues/problems to the appropriate management staff; and, invoicing and payment processing to sponsors and hospital services as needed.

What You'll Do

  • Prepare financial reports pertaining to the post-award actions for WVUCI CTRU
  • Maintenance of accurate and complete financial records/documentation.
  • Organizational management of post-award aspects of the clinical trials.
  • Assuring billing compliance with Medicare and third party payers associated with CTRU clinical trials.
  • Assist with operational WVUCI CTRU budgeting process.
  • Assist with pre-award budget development for WVUCI supported projects.
  • Processing invoices to sponsors for each study.
  • Preparing and processing operating requisitions for each study.
  • Maintaining budget and financial records of all clinical trials.
  • Completing monthly financial reports for each trial.
  • Maintaining accounts, in conjunction with clinical trial coordinators of trial enrollment.
  • Reconcile accounts for assigned WVUCI CTRU tasks/projects.
  • Post and reconcile transactions with grants and general ledger accounts.
  • Reconcile and process payroll with WVURC
  • Support faculty and staff with travel settlements, and reimbursement.
  • Properly coding credit card transactions related to WVUCI CTRU as well as CTRU expenditures.
  • Check figures, postings, and documents for correct entry, mathematical accuracy, and proper codes.
  • Classify, record, and summarize numerical and financial data to compile and keep financial records, using journals and ledgers or computers.
  • Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Compile statistical, financial, accounting or auditing reports and tables pertaining to such matters as cash receipts, expenditures, accounts payable and receivable, and profits and losses.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, or a business related field.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in the following:

    • Performing accounting activities with emphasis on experience in sponsored projects support or related experience.
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of 2 CFR 200 - Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and theories and their application to accounting problems.
  • Good communication skills both oral and written.
  • Skilled at maintaining accurate financial records and preparing clear and accurate reports for informational, auditing and operational use.
  • Skilled at utilizing accounting, financial, and related computer software & applications (e.g. Oracle Budgeting and Planning, Microsoft Office suite, etc.).
  • Strong customer services skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to quickly acquire knowledge of rules and regulations mandated by West Virginia University pertaining to grants and credit card purchases.
  • Ability to create, use, and update computer spreadsheets and financial reports.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Ability to learn specific institutional and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Read, interpret, follow and communicate documents such as procedure manuals, data from accounting and financial reports, organizational policies and procedures, and other sources as needed.
  • Organize information, perform financial calculations, draw logical conclusions, prepare financial reports, analyze and summarize data for supervisor and upper level management review. Develop and prepare sequential reports as needed.
  • Write routine reports and correspondence.
