Job Summary:
Leadership and accountability for all aspects of discipline engineering for the Engineering and Design Team from solution development through hand over to end customers. This includes Machinery, Instrumentation, Piping and Vessels, Electrical, Process Controls, Structural, and Civil engineering. The Director leads the in-house department as well as ensures the proper external support to drive world class solutions and project delivery.

In Project Engineering and Execution Americas, the Project Manager is accountable for the execution of all assigned projects. The department management team is responsible for supporting the project managers to achieve their project goals. This includes all projects in Brazil, Canada, Chile, Columbia and The United States.

Support of the Business Development Process of all new capital projects to ensure that all proposed solutions are feasible.

Training and Development of discipline engineers to support Messer's business.

Development and implementation of appropriate tools, standards and procedures for Engineering and Design in conjunction with the Directors of Large and Mid CAP Projects as well as the Solutions and Proposals teams. Promote alignment with Messer's Production and Reliability teams.

Principal Responsibilities:



  • Deliver Projects as assigned: Safely; to Specification, on Schedule, on Budget.
  • Ensure that all engineering deliverables are provided on-time, and of the agreed quality.
  • Support Project Proposal team with appropriate engineering and design.
  • Ensure scope definition is consistent with Messer practices.
  • Work closely with plant suppliers and Project Proposal team to identify the best execution strategy.
  • Ensure a consistent approach is adopted for projects such as standards, safety, etc within and across the respective Hub.
  • Ensure the Vice President, Project Engineering and Execution Americas is properly appraised of short- and medium-term issues with both the members of the team and the proposals/projects in execution.
  • Review of plant supply contracts in conjunction with Procurement
  • Departmental cost and discipline management
  • Recruiting and training engineers to expand Messer's capabilities in this critical capability are a key requirement of the position.
  • Development, implementation and application of Department Engineering and Design processes, standards and specifications.
  • Development of the personnel both individually and as a team
  • Assist in the development of annual cost center budgets as required.
  • Interface with key stakeholders for tool development and standard practices (Operations, HSEQ, Procurement, Technology Suppliers)



Required Skills:



  • In depth knowledge and experience of Discipline Engineering and the various execution options.
  • Experience supervising discipling engineers and engineering delivery.



Basic Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant Engineering Discipline (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical


or equivalent)



  • At least 10 years' experience in Engineering and Design, preferably in a capital project environment
  • Fluency in spoken/written English


The salary range for this position is $163,000-$218,000. Messer provides medical, dental, vision, short term disability, life insurance and paid time off as well as other voluntary benefits, such as, long term disability in accordance with the terms and conditions of these Plans. Employees are eligible to enroll in Messer's 401(k) Plan. Employees may be eligible to participate in the company's bonus program.
