About the Role Teksystems is supporting an enterprise security team expanding and standing up a fully mature 24x7x365 Security Operations Center. We're seeking a mature SOC Engineer who has worked in highfunctioning SOC environments and can bring engineering depth, detection expertise, and strong automation capabilities. In this role, you will develop advanced detections, build automation to reduce analyst workload, and provide guidance on SOC best practices. This is a hands-on engineering position (not a team lead role) focused on maturing detection engineering, automation, and SOC architecture. Top Skills - Must Haves * 5+ years in a mature Security Operations Center * Strong experience with Splunk Enterprise Security * Hands-on detection engineering & correlation search development * MITRE ATT&CK mapping and coverage gap analysis * Experience building automated playbooks in SOAR platforms * Scripting (Python, PowerShell, or Bash) * Cloud security monitoring experience (AWS, GCP, Azure) Nice to Have Skills * Experience with Splunk SOAR * Splunk UEBA or similar behavioral analytics tools * Risk-Based Alerting (RBA) implementation * Threat hunting experience * Infrastructure automation / CI-CD pipeline knowledge * Certifications (GIAC, CISSP, etc.) * Experience mentoring junior engineers or analysts What You'll Be Doing * Detection Engineering * Security Automation * SOC Architecture & Maturity * CrossFunctional Collaboration Work Environment * Hybrid: 3 days/week onsite * Locations: Rockville, MD or Tysons, VA * Collaboration with SOC Analysts, Threat Intelligence, Threat Hunting, and Platform Engineering teams. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Tysons, VA. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $70.00 - $80.00/hr.
