The Laboratory for Prof. Chen is seeking an Associate Research Scientist (ARS) to participate in scientific discoveries in the field of carbon dioxide mitigation and catalysts. The ARS will design and lead research projects that fit into the lab's research mission, prepare research papers and present results at conferences and meetings, participate in the supervision of trainees, help raise research funds, and overall participate in all tasks of the lab function. The research in the Chen lab is in the Department of Chemical Engineering. The ARS will perform kinetic studies using reactors and characterize catalysts using synchrotron techniques. The ARS will study model surfaces to gain a fundamental understanding, as well as powder catalysts for industrially relevant reactions in thermocatalysis and electrocatalysis.

Required:



  • Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a closely related field
  • Specialization in catalysts and carbon dioxide mitigation
  • Minimum of 3 years of postdoctoral research experience in an academic research laboratory
  • Working knowledge of synchrotron-based characterization techniques
  • Experience conducting kinetic studies using reactor systems
