DESCRIPTION

UC San Diego Health's Strategy Office is seeking a Strategic Planner to support system-level strategy development. This role involves advising senior and physician leadership on strategic direction based on data-based insights generated from market analytics and research, and internal assessments.

Applies skills and experience as a seasoned business development professional to research and produce detailed analysis to identify business opportunities and growth-oriented strategic options. Supports planning, implementation and monitoring of new services, programs partnerships and health care innovations.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic planning: create strategic intelligence that drives executive team strategic planning and decision-making processes
  • New services and program development: support the planning, implementation, and monitoring of innovative business opportunities
  • Market and trend analysis: conduct market research to evaluate industry trends, analyze competitors, and identify opportunities for growth
  • Cross-functional collaboration: work with different departments, such as finance, marketing, and clinical services, to align efforts with strategic objectives
  • Project management: lead and manage cross-functional projects to plan for and implement strategic initiatives and ensure they are completed on time and within budget
  • Communication and reporting: deliver presentations to physician leaders and senior decision-makers to communicate findings and recommendations
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Seven (7) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus three (3) years of related experience/training. Related experience in strategic planning or business development in a hospital/health system.

  • Thorough knowledge of business development concepts, practices and functions including health care research resources.

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills to perform complex market and financial analysis.

  • Advanced problem solving skills to assess complex issues and develop solutions.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively and effectively with multi-disciplinary, cross-functional teams.

  • Well-developed written and verbal communications skills including an ability to positively interact with executives, providers and staff at all levels.

  • Ability to develop comprehensive reports and presentations.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office software and database applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Analytical reasoning: the ability to accurately assess situations, identify areas for improvement, and develop effective plans.

  • Creative problem-solving: the capacity to develop innovative and workable solutions to complex issues.

  • Adaptability: the ability to adjust to rapidly changing priorities and shifts in the health care environment.

  • Leadership and collaboration: the skill to lead teams, work effectively with others, and foster a collaborative mindset.

  • Business acumen: a deep understanding of health care industry, including business development concepts, practices, and functions.

  • Experience with BI and visualization tools (e.g., Tableau) highly desired.

  • Experience in quantitative/data analysis, Excel, pivot tables, qualitative/market research, and presentation software.

  • Experience with hospital strategic planning functions.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $97,200 - $182,000 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $46.55 - $87.16

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
