Join a stable, growing, global Fortune 500 company as an Assistant General Counsel, Trademark & Marketing, to help protect our valuable portfolio of trademarks and advise on marketing matters. This person will be an integral member of the Legal team, who will help protect the company's global trademark, copyright, and domain name portfolio, and support Ecolab's businesses with review of marketing materials.

Position Details:

  • Position Location: St. Paul, MN (Hybrid).
  • 60% (3 days per week) in our St. Paul office.
  • Option to work remotely 40% (2 days per week).

What You Will Do:

  • Manage trademark clearance, prosecution, and enforcement activities for a global trademark portfolio with over 15,000 filings.
  • Provide legal advice on all aspects of trademark and copyright law, domain names, social media, marketing, and advertising issues.
  • Conduct and manage trademark clearance, providing clients with trademark availability analysis, risk mitigation strategies, and brand protection options to maximize brand equity.
  • Develop and provide global marketing, trademark and copyright in-house training and education.
  • Support Ecolab's businesses on marketing legal matters, including guidance regarding marketing agreements and marketing asset reviews.
  • Work with members of various internal and external teams on negotiations and drafting of license, sponsorship, and settlement agreements.
  • Advise and consult with clients in all levels of the organization, including senior leadership, to identify and assess critical IP and marketing issues and provide risk mitigation strategies.
  • Responsible for trademark, copyright, and domain name due diligence for M&A matters and post-acquisition integration activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • JD degree with strong academic performance.
  • Possess 7+ years of experience, preferably at top law firms and/or in-house, with at least 4 years of law firm practice managing large trademark portfolios.
  • Experience with efficiently conducting and effectively reporting high volumes of global trademark clearance searches.
  • Strong knowledge of US and international trademark rules, procedures, prosecution, clearance, and enforcement.
  • Experience managing trademark paralegals and directing foreign counsel.
  • Ability to form strong relationships with business leaders and communicate with them effectively.
  • Exemplary organizational skills and impeccable attention to detail.
  • Ability to proactively manage a high volume of tasks with competing deadlines through time management and establishing priorities.
  • Resourcefulness, sound judgment, and tact to appropriately handle requests from all levels, including senior management.

Annual or Hourly Compensation Range

The base salary range for this position is $169,100.00 - $253,700.00. This position is eligible for annual bonus and long-term incentives based on performance, per plan terms. Many factors are taken into consideration when determining compensation, such as experience, education, training, geography, etc. We comply with all minimum wage and overtime laws.
